4MATIC Staggered Wheels

Was discussed here many times. Short answer - yes you can. Are you gaining anything (for 350) by doing so - no, you do not (unless you already have wheels/tires from RWD that you want to "reuse"). For details, do a search, please.

I did a search..... nothing for 2011....the "gain" is the look...I was asking if any one was actually doing it and what size there set up is... so relax.... I'd like proof that it works, not just some one that "thinks" they know

Listen newbie, YOU relax. I'm no "thinking" - I'm a "professional" in this field and I "know". You want "proof" - I've done it on a multiple W211 and W212 4matic cars with no issues. You do not search for "2011" (FYI cars came out for '10 MY in 2009), search for exactly your topic in W212 forum. You will get a number of hits, then do some DD. For starters, search my posts - you'll find what you want. I do not know why I even bother helping someone with attitude like that. And the only "proof" is when you do it yourself (preferably many times) and not what you read on MB. Good luck reading. Capish?

Newbie? Thats funny.... Look genius if you dont like what I post ignore it...I still havent found any one that says they have staggered on their car and what tire size they are using... most of the threads just speculate. Just wondering if any one is ignoring the claim that the wheel circumfrance has to be the same front and back. Why would I experiment if its going to f*ck my car up?...

For the record, if M-B states not to do it, I wouldn't do it. Too complex and drastic a situation to play with. Not to mention, if something does go wrong, and even if you do put the regular wheels back on (to try and fool them into thinking that you never changed the wheels), one has to wonder as to whether they can find out that you used a non-staggered setup.

You can also search through the W211 forum. I hate to go through this argument again but I have never seen anything where MB says "not" to put staggered wheels on a 4matic. Mercedes has sold 4matics with staggered wheels before, just because they don't do it anymore does not mean that they say you can't/shouldn't. The largest difference in diameter MB has rolled a 4matic off the production line was .2% so I used that as my limit. But you should aim to get as close to 0% just for peace of mind. IMO

Staggered wheel sizes not compatible with 4MATIC all wheel
drive vehicles. Must use front axle size on both front and rear axle.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with going staggered on the 4Matic. But to answer your question regarding MB advising not to go staggered wheels on their 4Matic vehicles, here is a quote from the MBUSA W212 E-class accessories catalog:
Staggered wheel sizes not compatible with 4MATIC all wheel

To prevent another repeat thread this will be my last post in this thread.

if anyone DOES ever burn up they're case I wonder if we'll ever know about it.....or read about it......lol....
seems like it'd be to embarresing to post about if you did......lol......
how many miles do you suppose it would take for the transfer case to start
showing the signs?

Do you guys realize the C300 4matic Sport comes STOCK with staggered wheels/tires?
Fronts are 225/45R17 (24.97" outside diameter)
Rears are 245/40R17 (24.72" outside diameter)
That's a 1/4" difference from front to rear.
Ummm if there were a problem running staggered, would MB be doing it?

Sorry to add to this post but this is the first to come up in my search. I am wondering if after a couple of years since BAKPC originally posted if he had any problems with his diff? I'm driving a 2008 E550 and it seems that the wheels that I really like are all staggered, mostly used , so there is no option to get the same size. Thanks to all that have gone before me.

I've been educating car owners about tires rpm (rounds per mile) for longer than this thread last, but it is not getting through for some reason.
So once again >>> the car doesn't see if the wheels are staggered. All the sensors see are wheels rpm.
MB never disclosure the tech data on the issue, but rule of thumb says that matching the tires within 3% is good, when 5% seems to be border line, where CC and ESP start the discotheque
