GTR burning smell

GTR burning smell
I have noticed a burning electrical kind of smell ever since I have owned the car. I first thought it was possibly the amplifier / subwoofer bec I noticed the smell when I turned up the volume a bit .
after a few months the smell continued so I finally took it into the dealer .they said it was not coming from the audio system but from the front oil canister thats very close to the front driver windshield. They ran the car on outside power and Powered the speakers and did not notice the odor.
Dealer said this was normal in a car like this since it's basically a race car . Hard to believe they don't have a good seal to keep this from getting into the interior.
Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks.

I had this issue with my C7 Z06 and the only way to avoid it when at a stop light or traveling slowly was to place the A/C on Recirc. It went away when I stopped filling the dry sump canister all the way to the top.
My GTR has never experienced this and I do currently have the oil level at the top of the dipstick. So:
1: I’d tell the dealership to come up with a better reason, and
2: check your oil level and make sure it’s not too high.
Sorry I can’t be more help.

So, let your dealer know you are calling BS on his explaination. If it isn’t resolved soon request that they open a TIPS report with MB.

Here is the official reply on the dealer service printout :
Customer concern of burning? smell coming from speakers after listening to music at high levels for a while. Advise. Placed vehicle on battery
charger, turned on radio to customer preset. Set volume to very loud and shut windows and doors. Let radio play for 5-6hrs. Inspected interior of
vehicle for odor at end of day. No burning smell detected. Had shop foreman inspect interior of vehicle. No odors present. Note: 190 chassis
vehicles tend to have a "hot engine" smell after extended drives. This is normal for the vehicle design. No repairs performed at this time.
Apparently dealer is saying there is one other GTR that has experienced the same issue .
I would think if it was that prevalent I would have heard about it

I track mine and hence there’s really no way to get the engine ‘hotter’. There is and has never been any burning type smell in my car.
Can you Head to another dealer?
Did you check the oil level?

Bish is correct. I have never experienced this issue with my GTR either and I would think that any other GTR owner here would have brought it up by now.

Yep - everyone knows I would have sure. I even told the story about my first flat tire - lol.

My GTS had a burning smell after I parked it for the first couple of months I had it. The fans stay on after you park it, which spreads the smell all over the garage. Some people got theirs bought back because of this, but I didn't mind much. Smelled like a race car. This went away after a couple thousand miles of hard driving. I think some seal and/or coating wears off at some point.
However, I've never smelled anything inside the cabin no matter how hard I drive it. I'd push back on anyone saying a burnt smell inside the car is OK.

I have a 15' S63 and for several months I kept going back to the dealer due to burning smell. I Finally found the oil leak.
Using a small articulating mirror, on the driver's side engine compartment, I found oil was dripping on to the exhaust from the valve cover. There was no proper seal. It made sense coz this would happen right after driving, the barely noticeable smoke would dissipate shortly after being at a standstill.
I don't know what motor you have but it may be the issue. Also check the cam shaft expansion plugs, I think that's what they're called or close. Good luck
NB: Beautiful car.

There is a bulletin about smells on these cars from the cosmoline coating they spray on everything, it's a waxy substance and bakes off with normal operation heat, it's not a cause for concern and considered "normal", but it has a distinct odor and is only the GT line as the regular cars don't get that coating.
