Hello, some original cds that i play, their names come onto the nav screen.
Hello, I have a 2005 CLK 500, and when i bought an original CD like from the movie "Hitch", the name of the song that was playing came up on the nav screen.
My question is that is there any way i can burn cds and have the names come up on the nav screen.
is there a special program or something?
right now i just use regular iTunes, which i love because it is easy. is there anything i have to do in the burning prefrences of iTunes?

You could also try Roxio version 6 or 7 and use CDDB. This is an internet link that will replace track 01 with the song title, etc. You should also be able to burn MP3's and the center CD player on the Command system should read and play them. Be sure to burn the MP3's using the "joliet" file extension. The 05 commands don't seem to be able to read UDF type MP3's. I have been burning MP3's from CD's at 192 Kb (7X compression) and getting 100+ on a CD. The 05 Commands will display artist, song title, song number, and time on the Command screen as well as artist and song title on the MFD. These 05 Commands will also read a DVD the same way but seem to only see 255 songs unless you put them into separate folders (the Command will allow the use of folders and has a folder soft key to allow changing from one folder to the next folder). So burning a DVD with 192 Kb MP3's should give you 700-800 song with pretty close to CD quality.

Make Any CD you Own Display on Command!
All you need is Roxio or my favorite NERO to make any CD in your collection work the same way...do the following...
Insert your Original CD (the one you purchased) into your computer
Open up CD burning program of choice
Enable CD-TEXT
Make sure you see the track numbers get replaced by their song names
Burn A CD to CD COPY!
You can do this with any CD you own...this also gives you the added benefit of making a backup of your original cd which you can keep in a safe place.

For MP3's the Command display has two modes. While the song is playing it will display about the first 26 (depending on letter spacing) characters. Artist first, title second. When the song first starts the display will change for about 6 or 7 seconds - dim the screen and soft key buttons and display a box with the full artist and title info (up to 64 characters). Because the Command will only play joliet file formats - hence the 64 character limit. As far as album title, if you burn the albums as 192Kb MP3's and put each album into it own folder (name the folder the same as the album), I guess it would display the album title at the top of the Command display where it normally displays the MP3 folder. I haven't done the latter but I think you could do it.

Thanks for the reply ncamg, my 2004 is actually deprived frm MP3 capability and I was only wondering about the CD-TEXT capability. It has been a while since I burnt a CD-Text Audio CD and I forgot the limitation..

WHich models/years of COMAND have CD-Text capability?
It's not clear to me from this thread which COMANDs and CD changers have the CD-Text capability. Would a 2003 SL (R230) display CD_Text info when present on the CD?
My COMAND display allows me to enter CD names from the keypad and associates them with the CD for later reference, but burning the data into the CDs would be cool. Just wanted to check before I invest in a copy of Rxio/Nero.

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I was afraid of, so instead of buying Roxio or Nero immediately, I will probably try to find someone at work with Nero or Roxio to make one CD-TEXT enabled disc just in case it does work.
