Mercedes Bluetooth (AWS) Phone Compatibility List

So we all know that the AWS Bluetooth doogle is complatible with more phones then what is listed on www.wireless4mb.com. I just wanted to create a thread to help everybody figure out which phones will work and the features it supports.

If you guys could post the different phones that you have tested with the AWS Bluetooth doogle and what features is supported (ie. phonebook download, caller ID, call waiting, etc).

CDMA (Verizon):
MB Motorola v710 (2, 3, 4)
Motorola E815 (3, 4)
LG VX-8100 (1, 2, 3, 4)
LG VX-9800 "V" (1, 2, 3, 4)
RIM BlackBerry 7250 (1, 2, 3, 4)

GSM (Cingular, T-Mobile, Unlocked, etc)
Motorola RAZR V3 (3, 4)
Motorola V330 (3, 4)
Motorola V551 (3, 4)
Motorola PEBL (3, 4)
RIM BlackBerry 7100g (1, 2, 3, 4)
RIM BlackBerry 7290 (1, 2, 3, 4)
Motorola ROKR E1 (3, 4)

[THE MORE NUMBERS ON THERE, THE LESS FEATURES IT SUPPORTS]

KEY:
1. No PhoneBook Download
2. No Call List Download
3. No 3 way
4. No SMS Download
5. No DTMF Tones
6. No Signal Strength Indicator
7. No Speed Dial

* If you can't Initiate a call/dial a number, accept a call or reject a call it doens't work at all.

NOTE: Number 1 and 2 are probably the most important. 3 and 4 will probably not be supported at all. 4, 5, 6, 7 should be standard if it works.

I just tested the Verizon RAZR V3c (with .03 firmware). It works perfectly (exactly the same as the Cingular RAZR). I also tested the Samsung i730 (Window Mobile 2003 SE). I could only get it to pair with the phone to send and receive calls. So no phone book download, etc.

You may need to add another parameter to your matrix: What about the year of car and old phone installed (e.g., I have a '00 w/ Startac). Isn't that relevant to this chart?

Voice capability is controled through the VCS (Voice Control System), but can be retrofited. Steve will be installing it for me on his next trip. If you are asking if you can use VoiceSignal (as if you were using a standard headset), the answer is no. If you want to have voice control capabilities you will need to get VCS.

AWS currently only offers the BT Puck for MOST systems (Which means 05+). I hear that they're going to be shipping D2B pucks in April. I believe that this D2B puck should be compatible with all the same phones as the MOST puck.

Angry AWS and puck

Hi Gents, I just called AWS to feel them out. here is what I got:

The puck won't be available for 60days, at least. The puck REQUIRES you to have a V60 compatible phone system in the car. The puck will only work with about 5 phones. I told the fellow that I had an 01 E class with a timeport (which is absolutely true) and he said I needed to go to the dealer and get it upgraded to work with the V60 - ie. new PSE and new cradle. I mentioned that the dealers dont have any of that any more because
the V60 isn't 911 compatible and he said he didn't know anything about that.

Looking at the puck it is the same as the bmw puck built bymotorola so it
won't work with many phones - thats for sure.
I called my dealer and they quoted "about 1800" to do the upgrade to the v60 bu couldn't tell for sure because the parts don't show up (no kidding, they
don't sell them anymore).

I am glad I went
ahead and got a kit from http://www.EuroCarPhone.com - I have it all NOW and don't have to wait for a kit that may or may not work in the future. They won't sell a kit to you if your phone is not compatable and they guarantee it'll work!

Another issue to track is the software version. AWS said that the software on my phone had not yet been validated but after testing it out today with my newly installed phone / bluetooth module, it works just fine. I have a motorola RAZR V3 with software version OE.40.9CR in a 2006 SLK 350.

yami- can you clarify the statement that the bmw puck wont work with many phones? My brother has the v60 bluetooth puck in his 2004 745Li and it works with the razr, blackberry, samsung and siemens phones- basically any phone that has bluetooth protocols. the bluetooth functionality isnt limited by the puck, but rather is only limited to the bluetooth version of the cellphone- phonebooks, call waiting, sms, etc. As far as handsfree, I would bet it works with any bluetooth phone.

Is the mercedes v60 puck really different than the bmw v60 puck?- that is to be determined.....

I know a bmw v60 works in my mercedes without any problem.

I don't see the Treo 700 anywhere...that's a bummer. I hope eventually it will work, though. It's a great phone!

The Treo 700P will probably work, but the phonebook probably won't download. Let us know once you've given it a try.

I tried a Sony Ericsson w810i and it links but no audio coming through speakers. Also, no phonebook download. I then tried the Nokia 6230b and it works except no phonebook download.

I just tried a Treo 700w (Windows Mobile 5.0) phone. It works with voice but no phonebook download and no signal. So i'm guessing it'll be the same for the 6700. There's got to be a bluetooth stack out there that will work. I'm waiting for the Motorola Q before doing more research on getting Windows powered phones to work with MB Bluetooth.

By the way Sunil, does your Distronic still work? I had heard that you were having some problems with it after the dealers resetting some firmware?

Has anyone tried a Treo 650? If the 700 works - I assume the 650 will. If I understand, you can make and recieve calls, but the phonebook will not download and you cannot see the cellular signal.

Think it may be worth it for me...just wish the damn phonebook would download.

word sure gets around. Yes, the dealers flashed my ME module to a newer firmware which wiped the distronic string in there. I am getting a new code to reflash it and it should be running in a few days.

Works with UHI and T-Mobile BlackBerry 8700g

The AWS Bluetooth cradle works with my UHI (installed by Scorchie) on my 2004 E500 and T-Mobile BlackBerry 8700g. No phonebook download, but it does show caller ID (number, not name).

As an added bonus, DTMF tones (from the COMAND keypad) work, and they never did with either of my hardwired UHI cradles. Scorchie told me that that was a bug with UHI, but clearly they work with the same UHI and my Bluetooth cradle.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to Scorchie? He never returns my emails.

I just received the V60 Bluetooth puck from AWS.

I have an unlocked Motorola V3 razor with an ATTWS sim card.

Full sync on phone book. No SMS or 3 way calling. Can place and end phone calls through radio or steering wheel buttons. I have version O42 on the S/W which AWS said was not on the approved list.

Well, I actually wrote that it with works with voice, meaning you can talk and hear. I actually didn't try caller ID. But if you have VCS you can store numbers and use the voice dial to call people that you've stored in VCS. I'm waiting for the Motorola Q to come out. I'm sure there's got to be a bluetooth stack for WM5 out there that will work.

some BMW owners are stating with the new ROM upgrade for wm5.0 (6700pda) that they can now view contacts.... lets keep our fingers crossed... I wount be able to check until Verizon gets with the program and releases their own... anyone with attell or sprint may be able to try it.

FYI, if it connect through BT but phonebook doesn't download and you guys want to be able to dial stored numbers, get the VCS unit, you'll be able to dial up to 80 number via voice commands.

Not to be dense, but can you walk me through the process whereby you can cause the VCM to dial your Treo connected by BT? I ask b/c my E55 with a V710 will only voice dial numbers that I have put into the phones phone book. Those numbers than download into the Command and I assign a voice prompt to them. Since the Treo (or the blackberry) won't download phonebook, how can you use the VCM to dial by voice command?
Thanks
