MB Analog Motorola Phone

I know that the 2000 model year CLK will not support the V60. I think Mercedes had a upgrade path to the Timeport for 2000 models however. Let me take a look and I'll get back to you.
.........This is incorrect. I have a v60 phone installed in my 200CLK.

Q: Can the V60 be retrofitted back to older vehicles? Which ones?
A: Yes, at this point, the V60 can be retrofitted back to MY'01 and certain MY'00 vehicles. Also MY'02 vehicles which were equipped with the Timeport kit can be upgraded as well. Depending on the vehicle and the model year, specific components of the integrated phone system will need to be verified and installed.
So, in effect, certain (But not all) 2000 models can be upgraded. I was not aware the CLK was one of them. I know certain models of the 2000 S-Class were upgradeable.
- For instance, Ted has a European COMAND (from memory) but is using the US phone controller - which we dont get in Europe - in fact we dont even get Motorola phones anymore, just Nokia - and when we got Motorola it was just the "fixed mobile" not the portable.
I imagine there are some early MY2000 cars with duff software in the headunits that doesnt quite work ... I would also imagine that a s/w upgrade on them would fix the problem, but maybee they wont s/w upgrade - ive come across some early COMANDs that you cant do the s/w upgrade on - it just doesnt work - so MB are just saving themselves an expensive warranty bill.

The "phone" software/hardware interface is D2B, so if the head-unit supports D2B phones, then the control unit should work.

In the UK we always need a new control unit for the new phones (and occasionally a new cradle) - MB have said a couple of times that the controller will work with the next N generations of phones, but they never do and you need a new controller ...
- I imagine same is true in the USA

Is the v60 retrofit possible on a 1999 CLK430? My car has the old Motorola analog phone, and I would like to retrofit a digital phone.
COMMAND was not available until MY2000 here in the US, so I have the regular radio receiver instead.
How difficult is a COMMAND retrofit (with european tv version) to perform?
Thanks.
.........yes, it is possible to install the V60 in a 199 car. If interested, e-mail me and I will let you know where to go.
...........The European Command retrofit is not very difficult in a car that already has command. I do not think the 1999 model cars have comand. Also, if your car already has command, it may no longer be neccessary to swap to Euro command in order to get video function.

I sent you both an email and a PM, as my previous email to you didn't seem to go through.
My car is a 1999, and does not have COMMAND. How easy is this to retrofit? I am good with electronics, but don't have much experience with car audio type installations.
Thanks.
