Terrible Sirius reception in NY

I have had the car for only two days, but the Sirius reception is terrible. I live on the north shore of LI and it is aquiring a signal at least 4-6 times for every song!! Is there anything I can do to help this? I love the content, but if the reception does not improve I will not renew when the free period is over!!

Do a search, you are not alone. I thought that having Sirius would be great but I have found that it is more of a frustration. My listening choices now,
First place I-Pod, Second place 7 on-board CDs, Third Place 5.5L AMG Kompressor.

Sorry, I was so frustrated I forgot to do a search! I see that pretty much everyone has problems. My entire day is spent under trees on the north shore of LI, so for me it's a no win senario. I can't believe the difference between XM and Sirius. With XM I would only loose reception under a few specific underpasses. Now I count the times I HAVE reception...

I'd still kick - it's a brand new car! Possibly an antenna problem; or perhaps a technical bulletin has (or will) come out.

I agree with Yacht Master - I use my iPod (through a Gateway 500 for MOST, but your car can probably be fitted with an Apple/MB OE kit - if you record in high quality formats, the sound is great); mp3 DVDs (not as good as the iPod and considerably more difficult to record); or CDs in the CD Changer (original format CDs are as good as the iPod, but mp3 CDs are not).

Don't expect the dealer to be able to do much. I was so disappointed with Sirius I skipped in on my S65. My wife is addicted to Howard Stern and Martha Stewart's daughter, so she has it in her car. There's no excuse for not being able to keep a signal when you drive under an overpass at 70. I swear it loses signal lock when a bird flies over the car. We live on a mountain road, and it's useless for vast stretches.

They told me the satellite is better positioned for subscribers back east. You're getting the good service!

That is just SIRIUS for you. Their satellites move across the country in a figure 8 pattern, causing deadspots and delays. Nothing you can do. If it was an antenna problem, an error would come up on the screen, ANTENNA ERROR.

Jericho Tpke area is particularly horrible. Everywhere else is good. With the terrible NY FM Stations, what else is there?

Whoover, Barry45rpm, and emilner -

I just spoke to Dan at Mid City Engineering in Chicago (312-421-1114) today on another matter - they have an XM setup they have engineered for Mercedes. I have never seen it, but those folks could probably discuss it. It may not help with Howard Stern, and the company does its own installations - but perhaps they're willing to discuss. Whoover, I know you're pretty experienced - you could likely do your own installation and tell the forum how it went.

Me - I'll stick with my iPod. Love it! Except it doesn't get Howard Stern either.

That's OK. Neither do I.

I would have thought there would be "terrestial" stations in NY.

Sirius is perfect where I am and is the only radio I can get between Albuquerque and Amarillo.
