Full navi/command install in my '01 E430, how much $$$
I really want to do the navigation command setup in my 2001 E430. What am I looking at for a total cost for this kind of setup?? Where would i be able to pickup the factory navigaition pieces? I wanna be able to hook up DVD and maybe an X-box to it too. IF anyone has a link available for this lemme know.
email steve at s_krabbenborg@hotmail.com. over the summer he installed an oem euro comand into my clk and it looks straight factory. where are you located? hes going to be in ca in october and then on the east coast in november. if you live somewhere else, he also sells a self install kit with do it yourself instructions.
Yea i'm in Jersey bro, but i mean i can do anything myself so i guess i could e-mail him and see what he says about that kit. How's the system workin in your car?? PRetty good?
I just saw a guy installing an Eclipse system into his W210, look really awesome. The Eclipse is about a zillion time better than the Benz command unit: nice & big monitor, blend in well w/ Mercedes interior, nice color, touch screen interface, port for additional device (game & camera...), DVD-based GPS, fast, and ...cost about the same.
You may want to give it a look too. Installation is pretty much standard: wire for speaker, speed sensor, antenna

Is that a flip out screen?? I don't want a screen that flips out cause it will then block all my heater and a/c controls. I like the look of the factory stuff as well, thanks for the pic though, does looks sweet.

yeah the system works dope and he did a great job. the nav itself is a little weak in terms of POI's and typing **** in there. i had the magellan roadmate in my clk before the euro comand and that thing was on point and super easy to use with the touch screen. i opted for the euro comand cause i wanted the factory look. up next im getting the oem tv tuner installed that has 2 more additional outputs so i can hook a dvd player and some headrest tvs up to it and it will look 100% factory. in my old c class i had the pioneer flip outs and dvd players and all that nonsense and as good as it was, it just didnt look factory and it was a pain in the *** putting the headunit screen down everytime i wanted to change the heat or a/c. good luck with whatever you do. oh btw, theres a guy on the w210 boards stemags who had the euro comand, tv tuner and headrest tvs installed by steve when he was here over the summer and it came out perfect. do a search and you can see all his pics.
Steve quoted me between $1500 & $1750 installed for my 2000 W210 retrofit. Haven't done it yet, but I'm definitely thinking about it. I'm waiting until he's back in the US of A.
If you install a nav with a flip out screen, you can switch the head unit position with the heater control position so the screen won't block your heater controls.
I have an Alpine one and put it this way, I don't adjust the heater or whatever very often. Once they're set, they're set to my comfort. The only time I close it is when I park. I know, it doesn't has the factory look. But the factory one was CD operated, think they have the DVD one for the E-Class now.
You might want to check out the Eclipse system first. It's full screen, just as the command (not flip-out), have feel & buttons pretty much in sync w/ the Mercedes, . It's DVD based, and have features and performance that make all Mercedes command look ...like toys.
It costs the same as the command too.

He will be in the Bay Area Tuesday and Wednesday and then off to So Cal. I am getting my Command system tomorrow.

Why MB can't make command Eclipse based? They can even do better profit on reselling.
