So, how long can you go with the extended life filter?
How long can you go with the standard filter?
When using full synthetic, can you just replace the filter in between oil changes?

Your car has a milage counter that tells you exactly how long you can go, and you must use the proper fleece filter. You must change the oil and filter each time.

Assuming you used the proper oil and filter, you can rely on the counter. 10k miles is the default beginning milage, but the counter may not count down 1:1, depending on your driving style.

I had the counter reset by the dealership after an A service. It then showed 10K miles until the B service. 10K must be the default.

I know dealerships recommend and use Mobil synthetic. But a more local euro shop uses Red Line synthetic. I did not see that brand in the approved list in the owner's manual. Can anyone comment on Red Line oils?

I actually started a similar post re: MB approvals and Royal Purple in the "General MB Discussion" forum.

Are you going to be deep frying with it or dressing a salad . . .
Honestly . . . wouldn't it be a more interesting thread if we all listed the really bad brands of oil we've encountered during our motoring careers?
Think hard. What motor oils have truly been disasters in your experience?

All I can say is that for years Mercedes-Benz and Porsche leave the factory with only Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil.And after running a certain brand and weight for long periods of time I would not recomend changing the brand or going to a lower weight.

Actually MB cars leave the factory with a number of different oils, Pentosin, Avia, etc.
