Are the aftermarket rims need to be hub-centric to avoid vibration?

I noticed slight vibration from the steering wheel at the speed of 60 mph... It goes away once i go over it... So I went balanced my wheels...they were a bit off... thought it would solve the prob but still very slightly vibration can be felt. However I heard that the wheels need to be hub-centric or something to prevent the vibration... While i was searching for new tires I went on to tires.com and found out that they are selling these "hub-centric" rings along with their rims... So i just thought if i could just get the rings and apply to my rims so that the vibration can go away... what do u guys think?

Let me know if that fixes your vibration. I have EXACTLY the same problem w/ my 2000 C280. I put 2 new sets of tires on, and had them balanced twice at the tire store, and twice at the dealer. STILL I have a vibration from 60 - 70 mph.

I took the tech for a test drive and he said "Thats normal for the sport suspension" I have only owned this car for 2 months, but I find that hard to believe.

Shouldn't this car be smooth at that speed??? There is only 12K miles on it.

If you just have factory wheels this shouldn't be of concern for you. Does the steering wheel actually vibrate. Sport suspension or not, my car is lowered with tighter springs and sport shocks and it still glides smoothly down the highway. So are you of any relation to Rbus?

No relation to Rbus. Had to think of some goofy name to send out this post. Cbus=Columbus.

I have the stock factory rims. While driving at 65 I can watch my hand shake a bit. Consistently. The tech also said that "your just feeling the road."

I think I should take it to another dealer.

I never felt any steering wheel vibration when i used to riding on my stock rims... It must have something to do with the hub-centric thingy for the aftermarket rims... I will try get em and apply to my wheels asap...hope it works...

My 99 C280 shakes subtly between 65-75 mph. Had the tires rebalanced, didn't help. Took it to the dealer, he told me all four rims (stock 15s) were bent on the inside from potholes. @#$%^ Northeast roads.

Are they aftermarket or factory rims? I've had a few sets of aftermarket rims bend from potholes and that's exactly what you get, a vibration at certain speeds. I never ran into the problem to much with factory rims.

They are the 15" factory rims. A deep pothole will easily bend any alloy rim; I've bent a rim on a Porsche 911 with forged Fuchs alloys that are far stronger than your typical cast rim. I have a set of 17" AMG monoblocks and two are bent from potholes. You can't correctly balance a tire on a rim that isn't round anymore. And no, the dealership didn't try to sell me new rims, they told me of a place here in Boston that can straighten them for me.
