bet you don't have a c55

i've always found the topic of 'badging' to be extremely sensitive on forums such as ours. usually they are of clk320's or 430's adding an amg badge or the addition of tuner badges....which i think is fine if you have the gear. this individual takes it to a new level. i just have trouble understanding, i guess. C55

There WAS a C55 (W208) a few years ago by AMG. But that car was only sold in Europe and I believed it has a very limited production.
But putting a C55 badge on a C230? Well....I see no difference between this and wearing a fake Rolex!

Funny story, whats also funny was the other day on the way to the Grand Prix (Long Beach) I saw an S55 fully badged. It had the S55 on the left and the AMG on the right. At first I just said nice car but then realized it had the smaller stock S multispoke wheels and smaller tires. I then had my buddy pull up for a closer look and the car did not have the AMG body kit either. Whats funny is that the car had dual exhaust but not the AMG style but more of the skinny Acura TL pipe size kind. I starting laughing and we just took off knowing he couldnt catch us in my buddy's car.

he is probably talking about the W202

i think that the C55 was one of the AMG specials from till 2000 i believe. they stop making them when the W203 came out.

sad thing is that the AMG specials are only sold in Europe

well...C55 does have a lot of power but its nose is heavy as s*** the front tires will easily gets worn and it doesn't handle the corners...its like riding a top-fuel dragster...same goes for the C43

IMO the older C36 is much better car than the C43 or C55 since the engine was purposely build for the car back then.

just my $.02

Putting fake badges on a MB is just as bad as putting 24" rims on a MB.

I saw a real W202 C55 for sale in Monterey/Carmel a couple of months ago, so a few did sneak into this country.

I agree with FrankW, those big V8s screw up the handling of the W202 - too much weight in the front.

Cheers, BT

Y' all ain't seen nothin yet...

I swear there is a (W203) C240 with an altered badge. The fool took off the 2 and the 4 and replaced them with an "E." The back now reads C E O.

After seein this, I almost sold my Benz due to sheer embarrassment.

Some people...

At least the fake Rolex can somewhat tell time! Hehe. I hope someone didn't burn him and then think they beat a C55.

Truely, this is very distasteful. I got on the case of someone with a CLK 430 AMG, but he tried to justify it by pointing out he has a AMG bodykit, wheels, and exhaust. The worst I have ever seen is a C320 AMG and a CLK AMG (it was a CLK320 with AMG wheels).

thanks for the tip. didn't know they had a c55.

hey, it's not so bad in the states. in some countries, amg is everywhere...so is the m badge from bmw. 318is with m body kit so m badged...wohoo. and it's not limited to the actual brand that own them...i've seen taxis that are toyotas and hondas wearing a stupid m badge or amg badge...oh well

saw a previous gen m5 (e34) at work quite often recently. got 17" rims, upgraded brakes...thought it might be the real deal. but...ah...only 2 versions of the e34 had headrests in the rear. the REAL m5 and the 1995 olympic edition 525i. so..most likely, that e34 was fake, didn't have head rests for back seats.

you should stop the owner and ask...or....hehehe just in someway pop the hood and check but of course that would be illegal

this used to bother me immensely as well, i used to leave little notes detailing my dissatisfaction with the offenders apparent b@stardization and attempted deception. but after seeing the only C55 in the US in action i have realized that there are far, far, worse offenders.

Go to here and click on Owners Gallery and there you will see a C55 AMG designo! I believe that Toni on benzsport.com owns the C55 AMG designo.

c55

In 1999 AMG transplanted E55’s engine into the baby Mercedes and created a crazy C55 AMG. It was not officially shown in Mercedes’ price list so that production number was quite restricted. The 5.5-litre V8 pumped out 347 horsepower and an astonishing 376 lbft of torque, making smooth launch difficult thus it was not much quicker to accelerate from rest than C43. The heavyweight V8 worsened handling a bit because the chassis and suspension setting was basically unchanged. Some 4,200 C43 and C55 were built.

how did you navigate there? i've never been able to get to that page without typing in the address on the nav bar. they don't seem to have the c55 on their list of normal "special" series.

well i just tried it out... I thought, if there were an 5.5l AMG version of the C-class it had to be documented on the web - some old elements from former page-version of mercedes-benz.com are still available.. so I replaced c32 by c55 and there it was Well, the C55 is no longer being built of course!

You can find older models of AMG Kleinserie:

SL 55 AMG (R129)
S 55 AMG (W 220)
C 55 AMG (W 202)

all these cars are no longer listed in the kleinserie.htm

Hmm I never saw a C55 but I saw a C50 AMG at AMG. It was a W202 with a 5.0 in it i guess. I asked them and they told me it was a real C50 and it cost over 100,000. Geez.
