Headlight Lamp Installation Questions
ok this might sound really stupid, but today I was going to take the bulb out and put it in my pocket (the burned out one) so i could get it replaced and match up the replacement, but I took the black cover off and saw the level, and two bulbs... is it the top one or bottom one?
How do the clips come off? are the on the side and slide out?
Sorry, but this would really help if anyone can recall...

I assume you are replacing the low beams. The low beams (H7) are on the top and the fog (H1) are on the bottom. This is also illustrated in the owners manual if you need a picture. To remove the metal clasp that holds the lights in, you must push in and slide to one side. I found that using a small mirror helps you see which direction to slide and how much you might need to push in. The bulb should just come out without any force once the connecting wires and metal clasp is released. Hope that helps.

thanks alot i got it!
it was the top one and i can see that the filiment is discontiguous meaning its burned out and i can see it.
sliding the plug off before unclipping it helps
also i found i had to push the clip form the top in first towards the front of the car and then to the side... thank you again for your help!

tricky too. I had to use a mirror just to see how to undo it.

Glad to hear things worked out for you. It took me a bit to figure mine out before I decided to use a mirror. The manual did not help much.
Trbo: sucks that you had to rewire the thing. I think someone else on the board had to do that as well because the wattage of the replacement bulb was too high and it toasted the wires.

I had to rewire my foglights as well. The STOCK bulbs for the fogs were too hot and they melted the socket/harness. Great design from MB

Heavier gauge wire would have been nice. Bad design..... I've owned other euro
cars and never had a problem in this area.

Euro cars do have their own problems at times but they are still better than anything else around. Its probably the reason I still keep comming back to them. Plus after an accident in a Mercedes, you can become really loyal to a company.

If you're talking about accidents, I'd have to be loyal to Lincoln then. I was in my dad's old Continental back in the day, and we got rear ended by a big rig. The big rig's front end was totally smashed. Everyone in our Lincoln was fine, and the only damaged was a bent bumper and a broken taillight wing.
I actually found a pic of my old broken, burnt in foglight connector from my old w202...

That doesnt look good. At least it sounded like it wasnt that difficult of a fix.
My accident story: I was comming through a green light and a 15 year old no permit or anything with mother in back seat driving a 2003 brand new volvo decided not to yield. Ended up Tboning her at around 20-30 mph (no air bags went off). My 190 pushed hers across a lane and into the center divider of the cross street. The volvo was totaled and my car had only about 1k worth of damage (radiator, engine mount, grill needed to be replaced and the bumber straightened).
A friend had an old Lincoln, that thing was like a tank!

2000, C230 kompressor sport,
I'm sorry but I got another stupid question... When you remove the burnt out low beam bulb...Do you remove it from the rear in the engine compartment (Like my Nissan) or do you take the lense housing off from the front?
