Are you referring to the Kelvin measurement of the factory xenons?

4300k (or somewhere around there) i believe. you dont want it too high otherwise it defeats its purpose.

Correct, 4300K is the somewhat standard. The bulbs, depending on whether they are a DS2 or DR2 and if in a projector assembly or regular housing will look different depending on the bulb/housing. If you want to upgrade, 6000K is the best/max for color and brighness, however anything over that has been proven to produce more glare than anything.

i have the 6000k philipps ultinons in my 330 and they're pretty sweet. bmw offers two different stock xenon bulbs. Osram 4100k and philipps 4300k. i was one of the unlucky ones to get the osrams and they sucked. i compared them to my infiniti I30t's (had it at the time) w/ PIAA halogens and the PIAA's actually looked better and offered better visibility. i don't know why but the philipps 4300k looked and performed noticeably better. had my car come equipped with those, i wouldn't have spent the money on the 6000k's. Personally i like the Osram Xenarc 5400k's. If they still make them, not sure. I believe philipps ultinon 6000k's actually burn at 5800k or 5600k. something like that. anything higher than that and your gonna really notice a loss in visibility, especially in wet weather.

VERY CORRECT! note in wet weather....it will just shines on the rain/show/fog and wont shine thru them... thats why the fogs are yellow

here's what i've noticed with the 6000k's in wet weather. street signs and parkway signs illuminate great, but the road itself does not. except in the snow, then it looks cool as hell

ok, so i think i'm gonna get the H7's from PIAA that are rated at 4000K, they should be the closest match to factory BiX. so as for the fogs, you would recommend not changing these out since the stock ones are meant for shining through fog and changing them to match the other lights would in fact make it more difficult to drive through the fog than the stock ones?

with the 6000k's it's really not that much of a difference. i've been in car w/ 8000k's and it's ridiculous the difference over stock. you'll be ok w/ 4000k PIAA's. I think there's even a real xenon bulb in the mid 3k range that supposedly provides great visibility when used in your fogs.

8000k is way too purplish. defeats the purpose of having Xenon for safety.

Correction ! the bulb types are D2S and D2R, the S is used in projector housing and the R is used in reflective type housing (there are also the D1 series which we wont talk about). Here is a trick that I learned: if you want to make them blue (meaning that from down the road, you want people to see your lights appear to have more blue hue) pull the shield a little more closer to the front of the bulb, this way you will not have that yellow/brown spec that you see right where the cut off is. This trick will not effect the amount of light or the color of the light below the shield.

ps. here is an example of the diff type of bulbs are out there http://www.ambulbs.com/products/category.php/CA=4
