suspention sugestions, opinions, and questions.

ok,

so im thinking of lowering my car. not much maybe an inch to an inch an a half. But i know nothing about suspention for these cars. I used to have a jetta and know some companies that make VW stuff make stuff for MB. But what are good? i saw in the classifieds some one has a KW coilovers for sale, but KW for VW in most cases were junk. same with H & R.

So im looking for suspention set ups some of you have and or cant point me in the direction of.

also how is the ride quality? my jetta was on nuespeed/blisten combo. and was stiff as a brick. i loved the look, hated the ride. I love the smooth ride i have now and would hate to destroy it just to lower the car an inch. also.. is the AMG lower the the 05 sport? i saw Frank was selling his stock springs. im assuming the AMG springs are just a stiffer spring rate but maybe lower the the GLI vs. regular jetta

Take a look at the suspension thread I started. If you go to "advanced search", search for my username "drexappeal" in the w203 forum and you should find the thread.

if you love the current ride quality, I would advise against lowering your car. The current C230/320ss strikes an awesome balance of ride and handling and the chances are you'll just make both worse. Lowering your car will indeed make the ride worse because you are loosing suspension travel and most likely chopping off the progressive part of your current springs or going to stiffer aftermarket replacements. Plus there are several other aspects of suspension geometry that get's changed (usually for the worse) with those lowering kits and your car could end up handling worse than stock.

When you lower the car, there's no way you can keep the quality ride of stock suspension no matter what kind of spring you use. The moving shaft of the shocks/struts will have shorter travel distance and that's mean stiffer ride. Handling will improve and less body roll..imho

The only way that handling will get worse is if you either screw up the install, or put on inferior goods. Haven't heard of anyone here short of some idiot who cut the springs who's been displeased with the improvement in handling from any mods done.

I do agree about the ride - if someone's in love with the ride of their car, the best thing to do is nothing.

Eibach has a suspension kit(matching springs and shocks) for our cars. Or you can also just the the springs and use the stock shocks. Good quality and a good price. Check tirerack for them.

I have brabus springs and IMO they are the best balance between handling and ride. Its stiffer than stock but still comfortable, but the handling and control improved tenfold. Expensive but very good springs.

You wont destroy your ride quality, Eibach and other companys have engineers as well, they make quality products and with a proper installer you will be fine.

Personally I wouldnt bother with the AMG, you wont notice too much difference, buts its your choice.

thanks,

with the barbus springs are you running the stock shocks? wont running a smaller spring on a stock shock blow the shocks real easy? i dont know the quality of MB sport shocks, but i would assume if you want to lower its going to be spring/shock combo/coilovers.

if the stock shocks can handle just springs, that would be cool. i dont want to do any thing half *** and have to pay more later to have new shocks installed though.

Yeah Im running stock shocks. The life will be slightly shorter but its not really a concent IMO. Brabus matches good with MBs shocks. They are a good combo. You can lower it either with springs/springs and shocks/ or COs. It will about 1.2 inches with the brabus.
