How many people have noticed pedestrians turning their heads to see what is rumbling out of first gear? Or what sounds like a jet engine decelerating towards a red light?
I swear, this thing has a serious growl...most superchargers I've heard in the past give off more of a whining wizz than a whirling grumble...I've set off my neighbors' car alarms at least half a dozen times in the past week.
Even if the 06 V6's are retuned for the US market and indeed outperform the I4's, I'm not sure I would want to give up the exhaust note. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite features.
I spend a lot of time on this board being critical of and pragmatic about the car, I figured I might as well show some giddiness about her too!

What on a C230K? Man, you guys must have different engines because mine sounds like a tranquilized kitty who thinks she's a 500-pound roaring lion. Even with my AMG exhaust, the sound of my car rarely make heads turn.

You should hear what an older M111 sounds like with a pulley...serious jet sounds. I can't get enough...
Several people have posted vids from outside the car, and the Coupe and Sedan both make that same jet whine, doppler shifted snarl that you get from the C32 and SL55 as they fly by. Of course, there's no V engine stacato after the flyby...

I used to think that our cars didn't make too much noise... Then, I figured out that I can set my friend's car alarm (on a camry) off if I drove by it in first gear...

The AT is robbing you of one of the car's unique and attractive features... always in "optimal" gear when driving or neutral when decelerating, you'll never get the jet engine or throaty whirl that turns heads every time I drive up a street.

I love the sound of the engine and exhaust! Like last night my wife pulling into her mothers driveway as I was on the deck! Nothing like first gear and the sound of the SC whining!!!!
