Ok... so I found out the hard way that the tinting will scratch unless something is used to protect it. Searching the forums I found this thread.

My tinter has agreed to replace the scratched tint but will not dissasemble the car to install the moleskin from tintprotector. I am going to order this kit and do the install myself.

My specific question is. Can the moleskin be installed with the windows rolled up so that if I have him retint prior to installing the protector I do not have to roll the window down to install it and risk scratching the new tint.

Or should I install the tintprotector prior to the new install of tint and risk having his chemicals/tools damage the moleskin.

I know this sounds like a silly question but I'm not sure which way is the best to approach this. Retint and install moleskin or install moleskin and retint

We recommend installing the Tint Protector MoleSkin after your windows have been tinted or re-tinted. Tint shops use a spray bottle full of chemicals and soaps to clean your window before they install the tint. The chemicals could adversely affect the adhesive in the MoleSkin.

So should I just remove the inside strip completely prior to having the install done? Or can I install the product after the retint without rolling down the windows. The reason I am concerned is the passenger side is extremely rough and literally cut the tint the first time I rolled down the window.

I guess I feel like I have a catch 22 situation here.

Thanks for your help.

There are instructions for removing the door panel in the DIY sticky.
It's a 5 minute job.

Pull the door panel, and install the moleskin OR
you can use the loop side of Velcro tape as the shop I used did.

FYI-
Don't drive or start the car without the door panel connected, as that would give you an SRS error which requires SDS computer to clear.

Hey guys, I just got a quote for $300 to remove the existing tint on all 6 windows and replace with Formula One Comfort 15 plus felt in the weather strips. Is this a good deal? Also, anybody have experience with electronic interference on the Comfort 15? Don't have satellite radio and don't use my GPD often. I DO however use a radar detector almost every day.

I paid over $400 for Formula One ceramic tint with felt installed in the windows. Make sure you get ceramic, not cheap plastic or metallic that will cause interference.

Metallic tint- Radio still works but not with defroster on

I've read on here about metallic tints interfering with the radio but I've only read that it completely interferes with your radio. Mine works fine on all stations even AM. But as soon as I hit the defroster certain channels go bad and so does AM. I've also read about hatch back having these problems when getting tint cause of chemicals seeping into the head liner when the tint is done with the hatch open. Which causes the chemicals to drop down the headliner and damaging the antenna. This would've made perfect sense except I have a 4 door so the chemicals should drip the other way, away from the head liner. The only fix I've read is to replace the entire window.

Am I pretty much screwed and have to replace the entire window? Or maybe the tint is still wet causing some type of conduction between the radio antenna and defroster when the defroster is on? Maybe I should wait for the tint to completely dry and hope the problem goes away then. Any thoughts?

On the possitive side...the tint was done very well and it's the perfect shade for me.

Brand:
SolarGard HP Quantum 52 - 52%

Update: After doing some search on the web, I found out that this is caused by damaged to defroster lines. Either find the damage and repair it or replace the entire glass. I doubt this will be covered under warranty. Any one know of an affordable glass replacement shop in the bay area?

Did you do the rears yet? They take less time than the fronts.

Just install the Tint Protector now. You can install it with or without tint. It's easy.

Just an update: Ended up getting the Formula One Pinnacle 15 (plus a 5% window stripe) installed with moleskin. Looks great and the moleskin really does its job! Very happy, and my reception is great!

Help, keyless not working

I just got my car tinted yesterday. When I picked it up, there was no problem. My wife later took the car out and when she was trying to come back the remote wouldn't unlock. When she finally got back I tried my key and it worked for a bit 1 in away from the ir sensor. I tried her key and the same thing. Now my key isnt working at all. I replaced the batteries the week before. I told them not to use metallic tint. The radio works fine and I believe the rear defost works fine aswell, not that cold yet to really try it out in the morning. When I first tried it upon wife's return I could hear clicking going on in the car when pressing the remote, put didn't actullay work until aimed at IR.

Would it be then tint or something else. approx. 78,000 miles.

Thanks guy.

If it is the tint that was giving you problems, it might have been the moisture between the tint and glass. Sounds weird to me though, unless they didn't listen to you and put on metallic tint. Hope it works out for you though...

Nice coupe btw...
