Tinted Windows W203 Thread - All You want to know about window tinting a C Class
No pic of my car cuz I haven't gotten it tinted yet.. for My X;mas present.. I Have a white with charcoal interior aswell.. and getting a 20% all over dark tint. I think that looks clean.

I have a white coupe with oyster cloth interior: no tint on front, 35% on two rear windows, and 30% on back window. but if I had it done again, i'd go 30% and 25%, respectively.

Matt230K, I think my post is the most related to your question!

I have a question. Is oyster cloth the one that looks like charcoal? Because your interior looks dark. I remember either oyster or ash was charcoal colored, even though both of those colors are gray in all other MB's. Even oyster leather in coupe's is gray. I don't know why they used this name for black cloth.
The interior looks dark because the pics were taken just before sunset. Oyster is similar to light gray, and ash is the charcoal-like color.

btw i dont work for nor have any affilitation with said business
:p
Is this only a problem if there is some metallic in the tint? Or do all of you guys with tint have these problems? It doesn't have a metallic look or mirror finish or anything, could it still be metallic?
Thanks.
Ok so I am having my tint done on saturday... I should request "moleskin" and have the hatch window sealed for the sensors on the back?
Give me some pointers those with experience.
As for the sensors, they said they called and talked to the dealer and were told that it wasn't an issue if they got wet. But who knows who they talked and whether or not they were just making it up.
My FM radio reception is fine, AM is acceptable, and my Smart Key opens the door from 100 ft or more. (90% metallic gray tint)
ok well i was quoted $240 canadian for a tint from the MB dealership and was quoted $ 200 from a body shop i know called "TEAMWORK" there a professional bodys shop and there gonna fix my car up from a minor accident so i might as well get the tint there as well so it saves me waiting there for two hours or so...
what should i tell him before they tint my benz?
Which MB dealership was this? West Broadway?
Teamwork looks decent, but they seem to deal with Japanese import vehicles mostly. I was recommended to 3M Trimline on Clarke Rd in Vancouver, and Signline in Burnaby off of Lougheed seems to be decent too. Signline told me that they had a waiting list though, and that the C-class wasn't an easy car to do. They actually recommended me to Trimline instead!
I would have your tint shop re-check their work in your rear window. They have to be careful trimming the tint there to avoid nicking any of the antenna wiring in the window.

oh... is the moleskin trick applicable to the rear windows on a sedan as well?
Hey guys. I did a search but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I had my windows tinted two days ago....35%. Looks great, but my radio reception is not as good. And my key only works from about a foot away, unless I keep on testing it, then it starts to work farther.

any problems with cell phone reception inside a matallic tinted car?

So I guess even if it is metallic, this should have no effect on the radio or smartkey? But if they cut some of the lines in the window, I can see how that would cause it. When I get to work today at the dealer, I'll talk to some people and then talk to the tint shop. But anyone else have problems with this?
The worst part is the smartkey because you have to be pointing it right at the door and even then, it seems like there is a delay before it locks or unlocks.
Thanks guys.
Well, I talked to one of the service advisors and he said that someone found in the computer one time that there is a special kind of tint that has to go on the back window to keep from interfering with the antennas. So I guess I might have to have that window redone, although it worked fine for about an hour today, weird!
But I have another question. I have read all the many posts about moleskin here, and I thought I always read that it was a piece on the door panel that caused the scratching. Well, I looked at a door panel today on another coupe and I could not see any part on it that makes contact with the window. So is it something on the door? I did notice that the rubber seal that fits up against the window fits real tight. Is this what scratches? Although I can't see how there would be any room to put a softer material on there.
Thanks.
If you clean in between the glass and that rubber strip with glass cleaner, spray the glass then stick a piece of thin card board in between rub it up and down you'll hear the friction and eventually it will be gone. It's just dust and dirt that you pick up during normal use of the vehicle.
