ummmmm, k. my question is, how does one find out about this trick? lol. does the head get the best reception?

yes yes I see where the misunderstanding is.... here in Thailand there is a different standard to measuring things... I was just talking locally...

In Thailand 100% tint is the darkest tint you can source here, which I believe is (in US terms) 20% tint... or as I understand it 20% light through.

Please dont' comment about it being too dark to drive as this is my daytime car, plus 45 degrees celcius in equatorial sunlight makes this tint as practical as can be over here

It's a model of Hi-Kool which is 20 from the outside but 50 from the inside... I believe it's made in the U.S.A....is this bi-tint possible or have I been fooled by the salesman?

That actually is an old alarm trick! When I used to install Car Stereos/alarms/remote starters and keyless entry systems we used to tell people to do that if they wer farther from there car than the remote would really transmit! Funny how it works!

Can we get back to the subject? Has anyone had issues w/ having a 6" wide strip of tint applied to the top of the windshield? And does anyone know how to remove the vertical cloth covered trim over the A-pillars in the sedan?

I admit, it does sound strange, but it works. I first tried this with MB-BOB once when we were playing golf. We were both (we both have C320s) standing outside the pro shop, and we could see our cars on the other side of the parking lot. If we would just press the lock/unlock button as normal, nothing would happen; no light flash. But when we would touch the fob to our head and push the button, the lights would flash! My guess is that your body works to somehow increase the output, sort of like a giant antenna. Not sure if this is correct, but it does work.

Did you then try holding it high above your head to see what would happen?

Actually, we did. We both tried to get it to work by doing all sorts of things. But when we pressed it to our heads it worked!

The principle at work is using the bones in your head as an extended antenna which amplifies the signal. It's called "bone induction." Dolphins naturally broadcast their sonar echo location signals through their lower jawbones as well. Just don't make any "Flipper" sounds when you hold the remote to your chin. It looks wierd enough as it is.

BklynBenz, if you put your ear on your monitor right over your avatar and then hum (more bone induction), the girl will spin around and flash us. You won't be able to see this, because the second you pull your head back to look yourself, your ear will no longer be on the monitor, now will it? But the rest of us will appreciate the show...

Now, back on a serious note, rrf has the answer to jaytee's problem...

This problem was traced some time ago to tinters installing the film with the hatch in the fully up (open) position. The transfer fluid runs down the window and into the rf receiver mechanism. The problem can also occur on the sedan's (Jaytee) if too much fluid is used and is pulled into the amplifier by capillary action (water running uphill). Give it a few days to thoroughly dry out and then see if the reception improves. If not, your tinter will need to make a trip to the MB dealer to buy some expensive replacement parts they've broken. Tinting should have no affect on your ability to use the rf remote.

MB-BOB, you quoted some text and incorrectly identified me as the writer. rrf (as you correctly stated before the quote) is the author.

Can anyone tell me where the RF amplifier connection and the antenna is on the coupe? I have 35% tint all around except for the drivers and passengers windows. The keyfob RF mode never worked on my car even before I had tinted it. I also get no AM reception or WB. FM reception is poor too. I had planned on bringing my car for service because it is still under warranty, but I think the dealer might try to haggle me because of the tint.

with all the discussion about safety and DRL's i would think tinting the front windshield would be right up there with painting your windshield and turning off your DRL's.

to be serious, it wont bother the rain sensor as long as they cut the tint around the black shaded area. no tint over the sensor it will be ok, and the sensor is basically on the glass, so unless they are tinting the outside, youll be ok.

I took my car to what people in my town consider the "best" tint shop. The guy looked at the car from like 10 feet away and said they wouldn't touch it because of the sensor. I told him that I had removed the sensor, which I had, and he said it was still too much of a liability. I didn't feel like arguing w/ him. I went to another shop who said he could do it, but the tint wouldn't stick to the black dot matrix around the sensor area, plus I'd have to supply the material myself because his stuff wouldn't match (apparently my car has SolarGard True Gray tint). Now I'm trying to get in touch w/ the guy who tinted my windows while my car was at the dealer (which is an hour away from me), but that in itself is proving difficult

Pssstkid, Citron already made a crack about the DRL thread. Come up w/ your own material next time. :v

Am I that intimidating or is it some people get offended by a lively debate?

Anyway, let's TRY to stay ON TOPIC, shall we?

Dude, I could swear you have asked this question B4 and I have answered it....YES, I have the top part of my windshield WITHOUT problems..looks great, the tint shape in Tampa had no problems going around the center dotted area, and they even, I think, charged me a whole $10-15 extra to do it...what more do you need ?

I want to see how far down your tint was applied below the dotted area as well as what it looks like when the tint doesn't adhere to the dots. Do you now if your tint shop did something special to make the tint stick to the dots? Also, was the bottom edge of the tint strip cut to follow the contour of the windshield or was it left straight?

thanks
Jim
