You dont want the cops to see you? Are you a fugitive? Well if they see you or not, get ready for a barage of fix-it tickets if you have any amount of tint in the front.

Huper-Optik has the best quality tints and top of the line installation standards. But they are expensive! From what I hear MB uses this tint for customers who order their cars and want a tint from delivery.Check out http://www.wintechtinting.com/ they do huper-optik installs. I quoted for $450 for 5 windows(including back one) I never got it, partially because of the preice and mostly because I would have to take it off every time I get a fix-it ticket. But I wouldn't get any other tint though.

i was going to do to mobile tinting and i was going to get a great deal, but the guy was a flake. So what i ended up doing was going to "terrific tint" this is my second time getting tint done there, and they do a great job. I was the first of the C55's to go thru there, however they do all of Laguna NIguels and Fletcher's Mercedes. Terrific Tint is located in MIssion Viejo, near Saddleback College

450 is ludicrous. ive been quoted that at some places too. back in the day tints cost 150 or so.

i wanna get the tints for th e 85 500, which has film on their for the past 20 yrs so i guess ill have to pay some to get that off

i found 2 places on jamboree and edinger, right next to each other, with dramatically different prices, the lower price place saying they are the only tinters for fletcher jones.

Anyone tint their windows and not have scratching? Should I have the dealer replace the strips in the windows?

I can highly recommend staying away from Mr. Tint on Stevens Creek. They said their tint was scratch proof and no moleskin was needed... I had to go back a couple of times for bubbles in the tint and one of the rear windows was not done correctly. They fixed those without a problem, but would not honor their "no scratching" comments when the film began to scratch after a couple weeks and said it was just part of regular use. I heard California Auto Tinting (I think that's the name) in Sunnyvale is supposed to be good.

Loy at Auto Creations, Hayward did mine. Drive was pretty far (I'm from Cupertino) but well worth it. The tints blend in with the integrated spoiler and makes the back end of my silver coupe look MUCH nicer.

Unfortunately, they do not do moleskin; Loy will ask you to bring it back to your dealer for it (I tried) but they won't either.

Lucky for me, my windows were rolled down once (actually, the person who did my oil change did since I forgot to tell him about the tints) but no scratches! But just to be on the safe side, I'll probably add moleskin if I can find someplace that'll do it for a good price.

My service advisor recommended a tinting place to add moleskin for me. She thought it would be about $20 per window and I only need to add moleskin to the two front ones so I thought "oh, it's not too bad." Well, they quoted me $180!! That's more expensive than my tints. What a rip-off tinter.

Tint Connection on Newport BLVD in Costa Mesa. It's on the east side of the 55, or www.thetintpros.com

Both are good

I got mine tinted for $200. He did a great job, but he didnt put any moleskin inside, so the tint is lightly scratched.

I went to California Glass Tinting in San Jose for all my tinting. Phil has done all my previous cars plus I had all my frineds go there. When my fronts scratched he charged me to re-tint them and he even cleaned the felt or strip in the window and that did not help at all.
Mr. Tint told me that they would not honor the guarantee since it does happen to some MB vehicles. Also they wanted to charge $400.
So my dilemma is all the windows are now scratching. I wonder if I should go to the dealer and have the strips replaced. My SA told me that they were scratching his front windows without tint and he replaced his since it was under warranty. When I asked him to look at mine they could not replace them under warranty since my windows are tinted.
So has nobody in the bay area done the moleskin to their windows? I don't want to replace the strips and then re-tint only to scratch them again.

Yeah, I find it very hard to believe that nobody has it done in the Bay. I really want to re-tint mine as well if I can find a place that installs moleskin.

Tinting Films (Huper Optik vs LLumar)

After reading many posts regarding tinting films, it looks like Huper is better because it blocks heat well and does not interfere with the AM/FM/Nav signals. Just want to know if any one has Huper films on their car coz I want to compare the effect of Huper films to the LLumar films.

(by the way, Wisconsin really sucks, coz there's no Huper dealer here and the only way to get it is in Illinois. I'm trying to convince the shop to sell me the films and I'll finding a reputable local tinting shop to install the films.)

I don't have any tints on my car currently but from my research Lumar is a quality tint but not quite to the level of Huper. I wouldnt go out of your way that much to get the Huper. So just get the lumar if its in your area. Problem is that its metallic and will definitely disrupt cell phones and nav systems. Also if you go with plain regular dye tint it will definitely fade over time. This is how metallic films are more popular now. So it would go Ceramic>metallic>regular dye.

Actually which one works better? Felt or Moleskin? My local tinting shop offers felt wrap for an additional 20 bucks.

On my car i did 35 percent all the way around, haven't gotten any scratche due to the moleskin, it was 35 dollars per window. BTW i got LLumar, and so far it hasn't interupted my sat radio, i placed the antenna under the back window... So with that said i imagine that nav and cell should be ok too...Hope this helps
