Ceramic Brake Pads for 04 C230 SS?
I just bought my 04 C230 SS 2 months ago, and the brake dust from the oem pads are driving me crazy! The brakes only have about 4,000 miles on them, but I want to change the pads to a ceramic or any non-dust kind. My wheels are covered in brake dust in 3 days.
Any suggestions on a ceramic brake pad for my 04 (not the 04.5)? I searched TireRack and the web and couldn't find any. Thanks.

brake pad change
before anyones decides to bash this thread .. i did search around looking for info on how to replace my pads on my 05 W203 its a non sport version. i jus picked up the pads from the dealer with 1 sensor. ive serached and found info on how to replace the coupe and wondering if anyone has pics or anything on how to replace them . its my 2nd time doing a brake job so i just want to be safe before i start replacing them

2002 Mercedes-Benz C320, Black on Tan
No dust brake pads?
My 2002 C320 Brake lining wear indicator came on. I read the other recent thread about brake prices, but I'm going to do them myself. A different thread I read once and can't find now had info on the best low dust brake pads. Any suggestions? By the way, the indicator light comes on and goes of every once and awhile too.

The last few brake jobs I did I put ceramic brake pads. They are literrally zero dust, low noise, smooth. For your model I think Hawk makes a ceramic. I used Akebono on my kid's SLK230 and they are great, the wheels stay shiny all week, not even a trace of dust. Similarly on my wife's car I used Satisfied Pro Ceramic pads and even with 3 weeks of no washing the wheels look clean.
Make sure you get a brake sensor, they are cheap and sometimes break when you pull them out of the old pad. Use a good amount of anti-squeal in the right spots and let it dry first. Also, buy a packet of brake grease and use on the pad guides on the caliper bracket and the slide part of the bolts. Get some brake cleaner and clean the caliper and piston clean before pushing it in. Good luck on the brake job, take your time the first time and don't let the caliper hang from the hose.

As for reusing the sensors, they are a pain to remove from the old pads and insert into the new and you may break it trying to do this since they are plastic and have been heated many times and are old. So for a few bucks, I would buy the new sensor and if you can resuse the old, great, if not then you don't have to do a trip to the dealer in the middle of your brake job when you are covered in grime. Also, the Akebono brake pads I installed on my kid's SLK came with sensors. Even though one of the sensors didn't go off, it did start grinding at it and came close to going off so I definately would not want to reuse that sensor.
As far as dust, the small single piston brakes they put in the older W203 and the newer C240/C280 and similarly on the SLK230 dust the most and benefit from any other brake pad than MB. On the C32 and 2004.5 C230, I have little to no dust form the factory pad. It's posssible they use a different company like Jurid for the pads since these are Brembo brakes. The 2005 SS brakes are 2 piston and are about half way in-between when it comes to dust. I know some of you believe MB engineered the brakes and pads but the reality is, they just go with low bid and typically use pads from Pagid, Textar or Jurid because they are local in Europe. That doesn't mean pads from other companies are any less safe, if anything they are probably safer since they are not "low bid"

PGD872M for the semi-metalic, and Part No.
CMX872 for the ceramic model. weird the ceramic ones cost less than the semi-metalic, shouldnt it be the other way around? i guess i need to do brakes soon, the brake light is starting to come up more often now

stay away from the dealership, get aftermarket brake pad and have someone else install for you. It's simple work, and the dealership can't void ur warranty becuz u have someone change ur brake pad.
I use Porterfield brake pad, very nice, brake dust is less than the back wheel

Where did you buy your porterfield pads? I am from Ontario too, but I found no one in here carries the porterfield.

It varies by model, year, and build date so the only way to know for sure is to physically check. My '01 C320 has one sensor in the back pads ( on the the passenger side). I haven't heard of a 240 or coupe having sensors in the back though.

oh awesome. but you havethe 350, those are 4-piston up front correct? same brakes as the c32 and 2004.5? you only need one sensor for the front pads? how long are rear pads suppose to last? my car has 35k miles..

As for Porterfield, they worked well but too much dust for me (a lot less than the factory pads on the single piston brakes, comperable to factory pads on my 4 piston setup but much more than ceramic pads). They are noisy pads though and some people have a higher tollerance to that than others. My wife thinks it's horrible but it doesn't bother me at all.

Yes, you can actually look at your brakes to see how many sensors you have. If you see a little wire going to the top of your pads, that's the sensor.
From what i've read on the forums, the rears last 60K or so (to be safe)

Single piston....yes front and rear....easy, same as any other car, nothing special. Whether you do your own or not make sure you break them in properly or you'll get noise and shimmy when braking.

I've been trying to find pads for my '06 C230 other than Porterfields (too much $$) and EBC (hard on rotors, I've heard) that don't put off much dust, but coming up empty. Anyone know some other brands, Axxis, Mintex, Akebono, Hawk, etc. that will fit??? I can't get anyone to confirm that the '06 larger front calipers are the same or not as the C350/C32.
