I have a W210 and was just looking at the other forums and saw your post. I thought I would give my 2 cents. I tried the EBC Green and they were extremely noisey. I am now using Axxis Deluxe Plus. They make NO noise, stop like the factory pads, and I have no dust. I tried several different pads and these are by far the best. I found out about them from this site. Man, am I glad this site is here.

I got mine from a local brake shop. You can try their website. axxisbrakes.com I think they show some placed to get them. Also do a search on the internet.

Also, my MB low dust pads in my 2004 C230 SS are equivalent to the Porterfields on my old 2002 C230.
I'm getting fairly close to needing new pads and so I'm trying to decide whether to go with OEM or Porterfields (especially since I have the 4 piston calipers in front w/ Cross-drilled rotors). Would you fill me in on your experiences with OEM now vs. Porterfields then?
Thanks in advance.

Anybody have the Porterfield part numbers needed for the 2004.5 SS?
Since the front brakes are the AMG 4 piston calipers (w/ Mercedes Benz logo), I'm wondering if the pads for the front should be AP847 or AP872 for the Porterfield R-4S pads? The AP847 pads are specified for the C32 brakes. The rear pads seem to be easier to determine.

The Porterfield pads I put on did squeal for a few weeks until they were bedded in and then didn't squeal one bit for the years I had it. I believe the initial squealing was because the MB dealer didn't put enough anti-squeel paste on and the rotors weren't turned in between switching pads because I did it when that car 4K miles (hated the factory pads). Also run Porterfields on my kid's Mustang, same thing, some very minor squealing when new and overheated and then it was fine. My buddy put the same pads at the same time on his Mustang and they squeeled like crazy because he didn't do the extra steps needed like the anti-squeel paste and beveling the edges, then the next week he came over to redo it because his wife was complaining of the squeeling. There are plenty of people that get squeeling from MB pads done at the dealer, don't know why because they don't squeel from the factory so it must be the person installing it.
As for comparing the Porterfields on my 2002 with the AMG style brakes on my 2004.5. Like I said, dusting was similar. The AMG brakes stop about the same as the stock brakes but don't overheat and fade as quick although 99% of my driving, I can't tell a difference, mostly when driving in the mountains going downhill where I notice the less fade. MB did come out with a special low dust pad but it could be the parts dept that's ignorant of what's available, afterall, if they knew how to work on cars they wouldn't be in the parts dept. You almost have to walk in with part numbers to get what you want.
PS. I get my Porterfield pads in Costa Mesa, CA directly from Porterfields, no waiting.

Just to let you know, Axxis does not make pads for 2005 C230 fronts and they only make the rear. I asked several brake places and that is what they told me. I guess I will have to stick with Porterfields.
I can buy them for $153 for front and $81 for the rear. Is that a good price?

What brake pads to use?
Well the information display is telling me that the brake lining's are low and I need to visit a shop. ANyone make some aftermarket pads that are better than the OEM ones? The Oem's make way to much dust and Im getting tired of having to wash the dang wheels once a week.

Just had some Porterfield R4-S pads installed on my car. With some help from MB and FrankW, I had to get the C32 pads up front (because I've got a 2004.5 w/ the 4 piston AMG brakes in front) and 230K SS pads in back.
A few things I've noticed since the install (even though I really haven't tested them, due to my normal habit of "break-in time" for any performance pads - I usually give it 150 miles, before really testing)
- R4-S pads are softer when cold (braking power isn't instant, i.e. more pressure needed)
- When heated up, the pads grip very tightly, so braking style needs to adjust.
- Brake paste put on pads works wonders (little if any squeaking). The squeaking that is there is most likely due to break in period.
- Considerably less brake dust than OEM.

I guess the OEM pads require less pressure than in the cold?
About the brake dust in the front, is it significantly less on the wheels? I have to clean my wheels everytime I go out for a few miles.
Thanks

PORTERFIELD has a lot less brake dust...but...stopping wise, i think the softer OEM ones are better...the Porterfield ones are a bit harder, and doesnt stop as good as the OEMS
