BRAKE Pad, Rotors, & Calipers Discussion Thread (OEM, aftermarket, etc...)
I have a 2006 C230 w/40K miles on it--mostly highway miles from my 100 mile a day comute. My rotor's are showing some signs of wear...i.e. grooves on the face and a small developing lip on the outer edge of the rotor. I did a visual inspection w/o taking the wheel off and was able to see brake pad available. Is there some sort of line or measurement that I need to clue into when inspecting the brake shoes? My question is how do I know when I need to replace my brakes/rotor's? (the light has not come on yet!) Any help with my question and also a DIY brake job would be so greatful! The S.F. dealerships just gouge your wallets for simple maintenace work.
Thanks!
Mike
I would recommend getting new OEM rotors with Porterfield pads. That's the set up I have on now, and it's brilliant.
I had to switch the calipers left --> right this gave me the clearance needed for the brake line. It is nowhere near drive shaft. It touches the strut a bit but nothing major.
The only drawback so far is that I have lost my brake wear sensor. I just zip tied it out of the way.
I will take pics Sunday at the Bear Mountain meet.

Sorry man, I didnt know there was a list of people waiting for these.
I didnt do any hard braking yet, but from the short test drive the feel amazing. Wish I had ordered some SS brake lines but oh well.
Cant wait for the meet Sunday.

Nah, dont think I will be able to. I have work till 7 on Fridays.
You should come to the bear mnt meet on Sunday, with the e46fanatics crew. We need to rep MBW
Are your bleeder valves still at the top of the caliper? Please ensure your hoses are not abraded by the struts.

tirerack are filled with idiots. when i got my RE I called and ask them if they can order the 18x9 since they only show 18x8 on their site. they ended up telling me with confidence that BBS does not make the RE in 18x9 for our car. lmao.
