BRAKE REPLACEMENT COST

I have a 2005 C230K SS with the drilled rotors and 37,000 miles. Was in the local dealership yesterday to get the sunroof worked on and the technician mentioned that my front brakes would probably need to be replaced in another month or so. He pointed out that there was about 2mm of pad left and that the rotors had a pretty good sized lip on them. He also mentioned that because the car is used primarily in Arizona that the dust around here causes the rotors to wear out faster than in other area.

I asked the service advisor for an estimate and he quoted a figure of $650 for new front rotors and pads. Is this a reasonable price to pay? Or should I do a little shopping around for an independent MB mechanic?

Thanks.

2005 c230k
At an independent I have heard people having the job done for about $400. A DIY with all OE parts will run about $300. Aftermarket rotors and pads are cheaper, a DIY could be as inexpensive as $200.

I found that the after market pads that I used were better in braking performance. I recommend that you use ceramic pads because the brake dust is reduced about 99%. Keeps the wheels a lot cleaner.

Just wait for the sensor to come on before you think about having this done. Even when it comes on you still have a few weeks to get the job done (granted that there are no issues with you brake system).

As far as the dust reducing pad life I think driving is more the issue. I do alot of highway driving and got about 55K out of my pads and rotors. More city driving would reduce the pad life.
