Any info if it is world wide or just US???

I had my wagon in for a B service and they changed some ESP module in a recent service action, they didn't tell me anything about the airbag!!!!

Mine is a 5/2004 C220CDI sport wagon

I got min yesterday, it is for thee 2005-2006 models. My car has been at dealer for over 3 weeks now, they let me use the 2006 E350 for springbreak and all. I love my dealer! He is changing the airbag then delivering my car back to me. If you live in central florida i suggest you go to Eurocars in lakeland! But anways letter says it is a quick fix but my dealer said they have to order the part so be careful if you need your car.

Yes, includes both '05 and '06. You should most likely get a letter today/tomorrow.

Thanks,

Got mine yesterday too. If you read the letter it says that the safety recall is for a situation in which an extremely small female who is sitting extremely close to the wheel and not wearing her seatbelt could have have neck injuries from the deploying airbag.

So, if you are a 4'2" woman who sits 3" from the wheel and doesn't like to buckle-up you better get in to your dealer right away.

Pretty rare to see a 4'2" woman driving a c while 3" away from the wheel. It is pretty common though to see women driving 4-5" away from the wheel . I still can't figure out how that is humanly comfortable...

Yep, got mine yesterday also. Will be calling the local dealer for an appointment soon.

Regarding short ladies driving close to the steering wheel, I think the majority of them drives like that...doesn't matter if they're short or tall. One thing I can't understand is how do they turn the steering wheel comfortably and fast enough if both their elbows are at a 90 degree angle?

Mercedes benz USA owes my dealer $1100 for that airbag!!!

How "invasive" is the airbag change?
Does someone have pictures of the open steering wheel showing the airbag module?

Are there any chance to get things broken during the replacement?
Is having the air bag replaced by a dealer as safe as the one install at the factory?

I mean, how do you test the airbag to know that they did everything right? I'm sure a significant percentage of problems are not fixed right the 1st time...How often do you see people on this forum having to go back several times for the same problem because the dealer did not fix it right...
And again, how do you check they did a good job? Are you willing to take maybe a 10% risk of not having it fixed right just to fix a "OF-POSITION UNBELTED 5TH PERCENTILE FEMALE" problem?
Do you think not going for the recall is an option?

Theortically, it should be. But my guess is it is not, as it's based on your countries crash standards. NHTSA found that MB's airbags were dangerous to certain types of drivers, but other countries transportation groups may not find the same thing.

I would wait and see or contact your MB dealer.

do you still get the letter of the recall if you bought the car as a CPO?

Yes, all owners, no matter if you bought the vehicle new or used should receive the letter, unless the recall has already been performed.

If you don't receive the letter, just contact your local MB dealer and they will most likely perform the recall without you having the letter.

It doesn't matter how tall/short/fat/skinny you are, get it done. It's free, and it's a safety defect, theres no reason not to do it. Whenever you put your car in for service, just have them do it or schedule an appointment and have them perform the recall. Keep some miles off your car and dog a loaner for a day!
