Under the coupe badge there is a divot as on the Sedan. Unfortunately, it is a shallower divot than on the sedan. Worse, there is no through hole in the hood... just two small holes that hold the grommets that retain the flat badge in place. So this badge will not work at all on the coupe.
Those are very nice, I sent you email.Originally Posted by DFWdude

I hope to receive them by next Friday, so I can make some new WHITE STAR Flat Badges the weekend of Aug. 5-6. Not to be outdone, here are pics of mine... (from my "new mods" thread)

Apparently, I have the very first production badge according to Rob
WOW! Phil, your car is beautiful, and the Badge looks like it belongs there. I've very proud to contribute (just a little) to such a beautiful ride. And Alboogiee, your's looks good, too. But your cell phone camera doesn't do it justice. hehe.Originally Posted by nlpamg

UPDATE for all... I received the shipment from overseas, and I am making several badges as we speak. I am only limited by my ability to make trips to the local dealer, and the stock of OEM upright stars they have on hand. The dealer asked me if I was eating them, LOL!
All of you on the list should hear something from me within the next week.
thanks for all the compliments!
Rob, the badge is niiiice indeed.

I have an unused flat badge (metal) but it also overlaps the recess. I like the fact the one you are showing does fit in the grove just like the upright. If you do find it, please post location.Originally Posted by Slim Pickens

I made payment last Friday and should be here anytime soon. I hate waiting, but it will be worth the wait! Rather pay more for quality flat emblem than those plastic ones. I'll post pics after I recieve them
Hope I don't have problems installing them.
Will I have to use silicon to protect the paint from this emblem?

I recieved mine just now at work. I took a pic with my phone but I'm unable to send it to my email to post in here. Sorry.
I never bought one of these flat hood emblems so I can't compare the ones on ebay to this one, but it looks good to me~hehe ^^ I have no idea how to install it but i'll figure it out.

Glad to hear you got yours in Korea. Global Priority Mail took just a week. That's pretty good, I guess.Originally Posted by necrotix

Good question. A lot of folks are confused about this, so I'll try to address it.Originally Posted by necrotix

The lock mechanism looks complicated, but in reality is not. It is a simple twist-on, twist-off feature. From underneath the hood, simply grab the two "ears" at the bottom of the lock (one ear labelled "lock" and "unlock" in the picture below) between your thumb and forefinger, and twist in the direction indicated till you can't twist further.
The OEM upright star will pop loose, remove it from the top of the hood. Insert the WHITE STAR Flat Badge from above, align the tabs on the star with the notches in the hole in the hood, twist clockwise, and you're done.
You can swap back and forth between OEM upright star and WHITE STAR Flat badge in seconds. No tools required.

Update…
First I’d like to thank those of you who patiently waited for a WHITE STAR Flat Badge. I am gratified that 70% of you on the list since April 24th have chosen to receive your hood emblems. It means to me that the value I’ve assigned to this limited production, handmade work is reasonable. And I appreciate the nice remarks made on these forums by satisfied members. Thanks to all for hanging in there with me the last three months!
That said, I’ll need to start a new waiting list, because my dealer informs me that I have exhausted the local supply of OEM Upright stars available at the parts counter! The dealer has them backordered, and it will take about a week or so to get them back in stock.
So, it appears dealer part availability, combined with my limited time to make these stars, will ensure that the WHITE STAR Flat Badge remains an exclusive item. Fine for me as I can take a few days to rest...

As noted, I have no more WHITE STAR Flat Badges, until the dealer restocks the OEM stars which I adapt into flat badges (week of Aug. 21 at the earliest).
Currently there are less than two dozen WHITE STAR Flat Badges in circulation. I anticipate making no more than 50 altogether, based on demand from MBWorld members. 50 badges among a couple million cars capable of wearing them is pretty exclusive, in my view.
Anyone interested in one of these should write me at the e-mail addy below for information, and to be placed on the wait list.

Thanks Rob,
Reeived mine last week, very fast shipment to the UK. Totally impressed with the badge and your approach.
Highly recommend anyone else to get one, but in the same way I don't want anyone else to get one - keep it exclusive
BTW mine's # 17

For anyone interested, the dealer is restocked with OEM stars, and I picked up a handful today. I will make some more WHITE STAR Flat Badges this weekend.

I just ordered one of these and can't wait to put it on... but I forget to ask whether all the materials are stainless steel. Anyone know? DFWdude?

Nice pics, JDM. The WHITE STAR goes very well with the white cars. But it is a complementary color for all the other colors, too.
The basic casting is chromed aluminum. The Laurel Wreath area is chrome plated plastic, silkscreened in Blue Lacquer. The White Star Insert is double chrome plated on all surfaces, with thick white Cloisonne baked enamel star.
Several members have asked if it’s OK to wax or Zaino the badge after installation. While everything is nicely plated for protection, waxing is fine, and probably beneficial. It certainly will not harm the painted finish of your WHITE STAR Flat Badge.

Apart from the internal springs and twist lock that hold the upright together, there isn't any steel anywhere in the OEM upright star. Of course, all the springs are removed while making the WHITE STAR Flat Badge. The anodized steel twist lock brace is retained.Originally Posted by ikkoku

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was actually just afraid that it might rust. but from your reply, obviously I have nothing to worry about.

after much debating by myself, I've decided to get one!!! I mean if mercedes dealers or carlsson even tried to sell a badge like that with that much quality, i'm sure it would easily be 150+..so for even 100 it's still a bargain!!
