SS brake questions???

I know the 2004.5 brakes are the same of the c32 and after 2004.5 the brakes are 2 piston instead of the 4 piston AMG, but what about the stoping power, theres is a big difference or what???
2005 cars and on have the same brakes or there is other new brakes?

I'm asking this because I bougth a suposed AMG brakes and after all they are the 2005 SS brakes and I don't know if I keep them or sell it

in the US version, the 2004.5 is a 4 piston from my understanding.

Here's from MBUSA.com

2004 C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan

Brakes Dual-circuit power-assisted 4-wheel disc. Enlarged perforated and internally ventilated front discs with 4-piston fixed-type calipers. Solid rear discs.

2005/2006 Mercedes C230 Sport Sedan
Brakes Dual-circuit power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes. 13.6" perforated and internally ventilated front discs. 11.4" solid rear discs. Dual-piston fixed front and single-piston floating rear calipers.

Thus, I think the 2004.5 is 4 pistons, and the 2005/2006 is 2 pistons.

However, both are Brembo supplied I've been told, supposedly.

2005 and 2006 use the same 2 piston brakes.

the C32/2004.5 4 piston and 2005+ 2 piston brakes that use the 13.6" rotor are a bit of overkill for the car. The limitation (BY FAR) is the amount of grip provided by the front tires..

I think it has more to do with the appearance of the large caliper and drilled rotors. I haven't found much difference in brake feel between my 2002 and 2004.5. Because the pads are much larger, brake pad wear will be a lot less. Also the factory pads for 2004.5 produce much less dust than in 2002.

I agree, totally overkill. But I get a lot of compliments on my front brakes and I get bragging rights to say that the car's brakes are bigger than that found on my favourite Ferrari, the 575.

My Ferrari came with larger brakes than my 2004.5 even though it's an oldie from '95. Just don't like the newer ones that much.

Cute. I get enough compliments on my brakes. If it were on a Ferrari, people wouldn't compliment the brakes because that would not stand out on a Ferrari. If you get my meaning.

Besides, saying that my brakes are bigger than the 575's is already enough for me.

F50 doesn't really count, since that's seriously limited production.

Ok, new question, I read somewhere in this forum, that brake pads and rotors of the 2005 SS brakes where the same of the 2004.5 AMG brakes, any one confirm this???

I have these parts for now:
A203 421 09 12 rotor
A004 420 05 20 pads

Any one changed their 2005 rotors and pads can confirm me the part # please???

I need to order them, but the calipers don't have any part # on it and its being hard to find the correct rotors and pads for them...

Ps: the only thing new I know its, there is 2 diferent rotors, one is 1cm bigger and some mms wider, of course for diferent cars...

The brake pads on the 2004.5 are definitely the same size (in front) as the C32. I'm not sure 'bout the 2005+ models though. Only reason I know is I'm running Porterfield pads for the C32 on the front brakes.

New info:

The C32AMG brakes are different from the 2004.5 SS sedan, the pads are the same, but callipers are not the same size, and the rotors are smaller 1cm...
Checked today with a SS 2004.5 caliper on a friend dealer.

Any one with a 2005-2006 SS that can provide me a VIN # so I can find the correct pads and rotors for my brakes please (1st pic)???

2nd pic 2004.5 brakes
3rd pic AMG brakes

Thanks, gaiex. At least someone has ended that debate!...LOL. Either way, it's definite that the AMG pads are the same size that are used for the 2004.5

Thats normal, all 350 and 320cdi SS have the AMG brakes, those are the AMG brakes, not the 2004.5 (notice the top of the calipers, more triangular and the space between the weel and the rotor, a bit smaller->bigger rotor)

The other brakes fit in the less powerfull cars...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the C350 and C230 share the same brakes here in the US

Wow, this is interesting! You're in Chicago, so I guess it can't be debated that this is in another country.

Anybody have a 2004.5 320 SS? I'd be curious to see if the 320 SS has the 4 piston calipers also.

Maybe Mercedes decided to make the 2 piston calipers specifically for the 230 SS (2005 +) and the 320 SS/350 SS have the same 4 piston calipers as the 2004.5 230 K SS? Maybe they felt since the 320/350 have more powerful engines and are more expensive, they deserve the bigger calipers? Who knows.

Wow, this is getting more and more intriguing.

Based on your pic, they may not. I mean, if you have a 2006 350 SS, I know that the 2006 230 definitely has the 2 piston calipers.

whoa! This is EXACTLY what we need to get this debate over once and for all. I really didn't know that the 2 piston calipers actually LOOKED different.

gaiex, I don't know if the AMG pads will fit on the 2005/2006 calipers. Did you try contacting one of the sponsors to see what they say? It's always a good source to go to when nobody else really has any confirmation.
