y don't u delete both the resonator and 2nd cat and run 2.75" straight pipe? that's how mine's setup... it's throatier which means it's exhaling better...

for some reason, if u can only delete 1, then delete the 2nd cat as that's a more noticeable gain...

because they're made for the Brabus rear bumper and it looks and fit the Brabus rear perfectly.

That's exactly what i want to do but i've got the stock muffler and i'm not sure if it will end up sounding bad.

Will that set up work good for me(S/C 1.8l model, stock muffler)?

The sound is perfect for me. If I delete the resonator or cat the sound will drive me crazy. I hate the loud exhaust sounds from 4 & 6 cylinder vehicles. Loud exhaust only sound good on V8 & V12 engines. That's the reason I got a Brabus exhaust, because of their conservative sound. The car has a little more pick-up than it had before with the stock exhaust. I might replace my Brabus tips with the stock AMG tips I had before. My car is still a work in progress...

I got some good compliments with Remus Exhaust system. Not too loud but at a reasonable price- $700. They make dual tips for the c-class.

I agree. It looks like a muffler tip from some auto parts store- no offense.

Well, you've got a resonator, not a 2nd cat. 2nd cat didn't come around until the 2005 refresh. I've got a 2004.5 and I didn't have a 2nd cat.

So, you're not exactly in the "same boat" as Ryan. That's not even getting into the fact that Ryan has a 320 (m112) and you have a 230K (m271).

My first question is, what do you want out of the exhaust?

Brabus tips are slanted because of the design of the Brabus bumper.

2003-2004.5 230K ss had resonator (no 2nd cat)
2005 230K ss had secondary cat (no resonator)

2.75 piping would be the MAX someone should go with the m271 engine. Anything bigger will most likely lose power.

That being said, see my response to you. Need to know answers to these questions, before I can give you any sort of advice:

1) How much do you want to spend?
2) What do you want out of the exhaust?
3) How much do you want to spend?
4) Where you're located (in Florida), are there any good/repuatable shops that can do the install and pipe bending?

I do...I have 2 cats...one right under the manifold, then another one, then resonator and then muffler. I'm just looking for a throtier sound (not loud, maybe just under acceleration...something mild) but if possible saving the money not to have to invest in new muffler(pipe).

MJ...totally different situation. 3" piping wouldn't be good for the 230K. Too much airflow (loss of back pressure) would equate to loss of power with the m271.

Huh? Okay, as far as the 230K SS is concerned, your setup should be:

1st piece of exhaust - Headers connected to primary cat w/ o2 sensor

2nd piece of exhaust - Mid-pipe w/ resonator, connecting all the way to piping leading to muffler

3rd piece of exhaust - muffler piping w/ muffler and tips.

Is that not how your setup is?

If you're you're looking for a "throatier" sound, but not looking to spend a lot of money on a new muffler. Resonator delete won't be will increase sound slightly, but piping leading to the OEM muffler is "choked" and shrinks to 2 1/4 piping.

Ideal way for you to get what you want is to swap the OEM muffler with a Remus and keeping the resonator. Remus muffler provides a deeper note to the exhaust, while keeping the sound somewhat tame.

If you don't want to do that or want something cheaper, I can't really help you out. A lot of the other "universal" mufflers are TOO loud for my tastes (e.g. Borla, Magnaflow, etc...).

Interesting. I don't think I have a secondary cat on mine at all...that's so strange. I'll have to re-look again when the car is lifted.

For what you're going for, I'd just get an aftermarket muffler and call it a day.

No problem. With exhaust, especially if you have the money to make changes later on, it's always good to start out with something...and then make additions from there.

A lot of times, people will go all out (full straight through) without doing research, but they end up spending too much money just trying it "first" instead of researching and going slowly.

The thing is, if you buy an aftermarket muffler and have that installed, it will automatically give you a throatier/deeper tone (due to less packing than OEM mufflers).

From there, if you want it a little 'bit louder, you can look into removing the resonator. Anything beyond that, you're not looking for something somewhat subtle and I'd think twice (unless you plan to heavily modify your m271 with power mods).

Most "affordable" aftermarket muffler that has a design for the w203 is the Remus. Remus muffler is the same muffler as the Brabus, but less expensive.

on the topic of getting exhausts, why not just get the eisenmann race exhaust and install that and change nothing else? With the 05 C230K SS doesnt it already produce a deep sound just with the eisenmann race exhaust installed?
