My new steering wheel with the new shift pedals

After a long wait, I finally have my new steering wheel installed plus a bonus " the new shift pedals".

The entire steering wheel was cool especially the shift pedals which I enjoyed it. I spoke to my mechanic and was informed that the this steering wheel can be used on the C-Class W203....

Is this the same steering wheel as in the c55. and is it possible to connect the shift buttons to work with the transmission? Or is it aftermarket?

Pedals?!

I would prefer "paddles" to "pedals," but maybe that's just me. Does this bring new meaning to heal-toe?

it's the paddles you see in the new 63 cars. It's still plastic it just sticks out, and I think Sunman has already tried to wire a C55 steering wheel with the buttons to his car and found it too hard to do.

He went with heated instead. You can not have heated and steering wheel shifting at the same time.

Am I missing something ? Why do you need wires to wire them to the transmission to make it work ?

My vehicle comes without the paddle shifting from the factory, this is stock . When my mechanic installed the new steering wheel obviously with the paddle shifting, there was no re-wiring to be done. All he did was plug in the pair of wires from the left and right paddle to the airbag connectors which has been in place. When this is done, he has the MB star diagnostic to enable the muti-steering wheel function. That's it.

Russ,

It is not an aftermarket steering wheel, it is from MB, it could be an identical steering wheel as the C55. The pair of wires from the left and right shift paddles was connected to the airbag compartment where it has the connectors for the paddle shifting. Next is to have the MB star diagnostic enable this function. When this is done, you are all ready to go...

I really don't know why I have to take this kind of remarks...each time, when I share a new mod, it is just as saying "BS".

Making assumptions without proof ? The steering wheel is in my vehicle now...

Sometimes, I really don't understand what is the forum for...sorry if I have been rude but it seems that someone shares a mod, it is not welcome here...

Everyone just needs to take a deep breath....no need to get rude or argue

I am sure if SLKFANS wants to post some pics he will...and even if he doesn't it seems to be a really cool mod.

Just got back as I need a card reader to transfer the pics I took from my Digi Cam with the Compact Flash Card.

Here is the pics of the steering wheel with the new shift paddles installed in my SLK. There was no re-wiring required for my vehicle and my original steering wheel does not comes with the shifting mechanism from the factory.

slkfans, you have SLK not a C-Class... I have w203 2006. And I bought same steering wheel. But it DOES NOT fit to the existing wiring, connector pins are different (the new steering's is smaller). I was told same that same steering wheel is for W203 though it has SLK part no, and I think it may be but depend on your car electronics. My mechanic tried to do a workaround by changing the connector pins -it went erratic on the instrument dash. So I stick with my AMG F1 steering now.

If anyone can advise part no of the correct wiring I will be grateful, the steering wheel now sit back in the packing. Been through difficulty getting it to country importing the airbag and now cannot install. Sad.

I live in Indonesia. I understand that that steering is actually stock for US version: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/150058-pics-my-new-ride.html Boo has it as stock.

the SLK paddle shifting may work on a SLk that did not come from factory with paddle shifters. I have never tried it but the w203 and w171 are different cars. Different electronics. You may have been able to enable the paddle shifting on a 171. I have tried to enable paddle shifters with DAS on a 203 and get an error everytime I have tried to do it. The option does exist on the shifter electronics module and is disabled on the standard w203 chassis. I am not sure when MB added it but it was probably later on in 04 or 05. New updated wheels with airbag will not work on older w203 (2001-2004.5). I have already written a lengthy thread regarding the problems with this upgrade. If your w203 (c55) already has shifters, then upgrading to the new paddle shifters is no big deal.

I am not sure what you mean by "does not fit" The steering wheel and airbag should fit fine. All w203 have a spare 2 pin connector on the clockspring. This is either meant for paddle shifters or heated steering wheel depending on the model the clockspring is used in. There as a change in protocol in 2005 across the line of MB cars making interchanging steering wheel controls difficult. I have tried a 2005 paddle shifting steering wheel in my 2003 and the cluster behaves erratically. No fix around it. Can you tell me which airbag part number you have?
