Mercedes-Benz Warranty

Guys, I didn't know Mercedes-Benz didn't cover brakes in it's warranty?? Is this true, I could have swore I heard my salesman tell me it was part of the warranty (48 Months/50,000 miles).

Anyway, so my brakes are grinding, and I'm not sure if this is the problem: a couple of weeks ago I swapped my Mercedes 16" Wheels for the Mercedes 17" Sport Wheels. Almost instantly the front brakes began making a little noise; I should also mention that I used the bolts from my 16" Wheels, didn't get new ones with the 17" Wheels. Please advise.

noise doesn't mean brake is bad
sometimes it's just dirty
and I don't know if the bolts are the same, but since it's mercedes brand wheels, it's most likely the same
but you might want to check the length to make sure.
Cause I know the 16" wheels has very long bolts, I don't know about 17". Just double check to be save

i dont think the brakes are covered since it is wear and tear and its always different depending on the person's driving style.

as for the bolts im pretty sure u can use the same bolts because its oem.

haha, yep! that's pretty much a big reason why I chose the m3 over the cayman S and slk55, it'll be a lot cheaper to maintain (not to mention a little cheaper on my monthly).

hmm, I'm not sure how long the bolts are supposed to be for the 16's and 17's, did you check the offsets? how many miles do you have on the car? my front brakes haven't lasted more than 22k miles. perhaps the larger/heavier wheels led to the brakes wearing down quicker. I know that going from 17 to 19 did that for me.

Yup, only BMW has the included maintenance now...who knows if they will follow suit like MB and Audi has. Good thing I bought mine when warranty covered wear and tear items, free brakes FTW

Tee_tz, if your brakes are defective in a way, then yes, MB should cover them but as far as normal wear and tear, its on your own dime

I don't know if it's just in Canada but my front brakes were changed (pads and rotors) within the first two years for free. The service guy told me they were covered under the wear and tear but only for the first two years.

Changed my front brake pads at 21,000. First i thought there was something wrong with the pads or my driving style, but the service advizer at MB said that milege is normal for 05 C230 with larger rotors.

Do you do a lot of city driving/stop & go traffic? If you do, probably normal but if you do a lot of highway driving, then it might seem abnormal. 52k on my car and still on original front pads w/ 9mm left in thickness (14mm new).

Hi All, just bought my first MB (2005 C 230 Sport) the other day and I am thinking of adding some performance mods. Stupid question though...does adding performance mods void your manufacturer's warranty?

Thanks.

Damn! Damn! Damn! I was used to the BMW Warranty -- brakes start squealing, I've got the dealership on speed-dial! They change them for free! About a year ago the tranny was acting up, they changed the whole entire thing - I just signed and drove out.

This sucks, I don't have much miles on the car, only 34,000 and I'm not aggressively braking or anything, so I'm thinking it can't be the brakes. Hmm... or could it?

How much are new brakes?

Stealership quotes for front brakes are usually between $500-$700, depending on the labor rate, etc.

Brakes aren't that hard to DIY right?

I mean my friend switched out his old stock A4 front brakes with some Brembos...and he seems pretty inept.

Its not that hard to do yourself, there are tons of tutorials online and the forums on how to do that. Save yourself a bundle by DIY.

I changed my brakes twice in the past, once on a corolla and second on a prelude, when I found out that the service advisor wanted to charge me around $600 for just replacing front pads, nothing was wrong with rotors, just imagine if I needed to change those how much he would have quoted me. Anyways I learned quickly how to search these forums on how to replace the breaks, My main fear was the menu telling me my breaks were bad, and for the 03 w203 its just a little part you can buy at the dealer. I think I got sensors for $13.

They did for 2007+ but they offer a great maintenance package for $550...which includes the 4 years / 50k scheduled services. So that would be one service a year...saves a lot of money and has been a great seller. MB should do something like that and offer a maintenance package.

Who knows when BMW will be the next to do away with free maintenance...
