Schatz "Prestige" Shifter on a 2006 Sport Sedan
I put in a Schatz "Prestige" CF and chrome shift knob tonight. I got it off the forum (thanks!) -- this place rocks. I was worried that Schatz lists it for the earlier W203s so I wrote them and they wrote back saying their shifters also fit the 2005+ W203 that have the different knob-to-leather arrangement. Putting it in was a breeze. You have to assemble it on the leather boot, put it all back AND THEN screw the shift knob on and then press it down. It feels great, fit well, and is solid (no wiggle). Best of all, it makes dancing through the 7G-Tronic a lot more "positive" feeling. Nice heavy back and forth when you are working up a lather with a 335i on your tail. Here's the pics, you make the call ...

Thanks, rlee02135! It was a pleasure doing business with you. You get a 100% positive feedback rating from me. The Schatz piece feels more solid than the leather and aluminum stocker. I thinks it's a love-it-or-hate-it thing. It is heavier but not so much so that it feels clumsy or slow. I think it is weighted just right for my driving style. I had found that I was not getting it to drop down a gear sometimes when I'd bump the stocker left. With the extra weight you get a more positive bump action.

That's the same knob I have. I love the feel and look of the carbon and chrome over the cheesy C32 knob the car came with.
I hate to break it to you though, I paid $30 plus shipping.
It was missing the original box.

rlee:
I finally got up enough steam to go find the address of the guy. He sold it to me new, without the box or chrome trim ring. It still worked out just fine though. I guess it was his display knob.

As mentioned, the adapter flange ring, from the leather to the knob was missing, so the knob sits directly on the smaller gathered leather. I think it looks better with the ring shown above. But hey, it was $30.

I actually tried it both ways having saw the picture of yours (above). Both were kind of cool in their own right. I like the way the newer BMW shifters sit tucked down low in the boot (kind of like your approach). I just could not get the stock plastic ring to snap up onto the Schatz prongs to get the boot to lock up against the bottom of the shift knob. So I ended up using the domed trim ring and "sandwiching" the top of the leather boot. 6 one way, half dozen the other I say.
