So as I've been in my search to upgrade my halogens to HID with projector headlights I was wondering if someone could explain the difference between single beam HID and bi-xenon? also if i buy a set of depo's are they set up for d2s or h7? im havin a hard time putting all of these thigns together for some reason?! lol...everywhere i see that bi-xenon aftermarket is for h4 and like 9007 and a few others while d2s, d2r, h7, etc are single beam...so which one to i buy if i get a set of depo projectors?

its always recommended that you use a harness if your car didn't come with hids stock. The newer oem ballast tend to use a lot less amps during start up and tend to warm more quickly.

You can probably get away with it since your using oem bixenons. Most people who buy aftermarket hids are the cheaply made chinese ballasts that tend use a lot of amps during startup and run really hot.

You can definately tell the difference between the oem and chinese ballasts..

single xenon is exactly what it denotes, a single low beam. Bi-xenon is a single low beam whose light shield can move at a press of a button to offer a high beam as well.

The depos are single low beam with a separate aux high beam..i believe its h7. Your going to need to get a h7 hid kit if you want to pplug them into the depo projectors. I would email the seller to double check if there h7's.

A couple more question: 1.)What is a ballast igniter? 2.)Is it something similar or does it work with in some way with the harness?

If anyone has any recommendations as to the best kit and/or kit and projector combo, I'd much appreciate it!

Check this thread:

I asked the same question in the AMG Forum.

I think I'm gonna go for it myself. the light output may not be quite a good as my stock Xenon's, but they look sooo much better!!

I got the Bi-Xenons from the classifieds. I got them at a very reasonable price so I knew I was taking a chance. But so far, they work great!

The light output is not THAT bad but it is nowhere near stock. It is because the projectors suck. It has nothing to do with the bulbs nor the ballasts.

i was talking about something like this..
http://store.theretrofitsource.com/p...cc32244a3f5d8c

at $25-30 its not horribly expensive for piece of mind. Given you have oem, you should be fine though. The newer oem hids are pretty efficient.

the ignitor is what it sounds, it ignites the crystals within the bulb..the ballast feeds power to the bulb after its been ignited.

HIDS basically use two crystals that discharges current between them to give off light. Halogens run current through a metal filament until it gives off light. HIDS are more efficient once they get up and running but just cost more to produce.

The harness just draws power directly from the battery and only used the head light harness to tigger the lights, so the only thing you can burn out is the $25 harness.

Yes, 5500K can still match the 6000-6200K HID.
Don't worry about if Tera 6500K is blueish, everyone told me they look great on its own.

Yes, they are plug 'n' Play with Built-in Resistor to avoid error code
Six months ago, I saw (@Car-gym) Piaa Tera has a new version with a 'adjustable' resistor which may be safe to cope with any 'exception'.
