Aftermarket HID Conversion Kits & required setting XENON=PRESENT thread

all you need to know about hid kit for w203
*Update*
Took the car to the Independant today regarding some other fault. And asked him to do the xenon present setting. He said he did do it, but the computer couldn't talk to the aftermarket HID kit I have installed. So it didn't work.
Weird? Either he couldn't do it, or he couldn't be bothered to.

computer prior to that in the USA did not have any programing for it ) i spent $150 bucs to find that out. i have a 2002 c320 and an 03 C32 amg. and I bought a few hid kits for my car because over the time the ballast burntout. my sugestion to buying one that works
for 2001 and 2002 is to search on ebay for headlights that come fitted with hid bulbs for w203 ( you want the c55 look those are best quALITY out of all) and buy the whole set prewired of if you just want the bulbs and the ballast contact the buyer and ask him to
sell you the bulbs seperately, thats the only way it works. another option is to look on craigslist for hid kits in your local area and
9/10 there is a local seller. you can test it with the car before you buy it that way you wont get screewed. i bought 4 hid kits on ebay and 3 worked with the car off but didnt work with the car on. i was told, its because the sam thinks the light is out. sometimes turning the lights on before starting the car prevents the check light fault.

ok ok people try to use my trial and error and save yourself some money I've had this hid kit problem before. if your car is 2001 and 2002 there is no xenon present setting on it so dont waist your money to try it ( they didnt start offering hid in w203 till 2003 so the

The rest of the post is - You're recommending buying OEM HID from eBay? Everyone knows that OEM HID is the best option. What do you mean sell you the bulbs from the HID separately? Even if you buy a set of OEM Bi-X you have to have the computer programmed for xenon=present. OEM or AEM, if you put in a HID system the car will give low-beam out warnings. I have a 55w HID kit that has no issues.

Huh? I can't make any sense of this post. I'm not going to debate you on the availability of OEM HID on 2001-2002 cars as I don't know for sure, but I think I've seen people post on here with 2002 models that have OEM frosted HID.

if you contact them they can arrage to just sell you their hid kit they sell with the headlight assembly and they work perfect with no faults (bulbs and ballats ) or just buy the whole thing they look better than the frosted ones
the non c55 type if are verry cheaply manufactured i have a set that are just chilling in storage i wouldnt put that on a hundai.

There is a ton of information on Depo projectors both in this thread and on this forum. Please read up on them.

so, during my lunch break I called few dealers to see if they can set my xenon to present for me, most of the dealer had no idea what I was talking about so I told them I need to have it hook up to star machine to change the xenon to present. I got qoute from $100 to $150 to do that, until I talked to one of the service adviser from Fletcher Jones.
He said if it's something easy that they can do on the drive lane then it's free.
My advise for you guys to get it done free.
1.Print these pictures out, these pictures are from sticky
2. Don't even bother calling any dealer.
3. Just drive in and park in the drive lane (waiting for service lane)
3. when they ask you what you want to do, just say you want to see a Drive In Technician
4. when the drive technician comes, just show you the pictures above and said you want to set xenon to present.
5. technician should be able to just go get the star machine and update that for you right away.
This shouldn't take more than 5 mins.
this way, you'll have it done for free.
if you call and make appt, they'll prob take the car in and change you for that, there should be a drive in tech in every dealer.
and if do plan to put aftermarket HID on (regardless if it's gonna throw error or not), I would advise that you get it set to xenon present before you put the kit in, this will save you some trouble later on. Cause if you put aftermarket HID, some dealers will not want to set it for you.
So, just go have it set to xenon and tell the drive in tech you plan to get xenon later on.

I just did my fogs a few weeks ago.
I had done my high beams (H7s) last year.
Here's a few camera phone pictures:
I went with 6000k all around. Low beams, high beam conversion, and fog conversion. The biggest difference was with the high beams.
I leave every morning around 5:20am for my 57 mile commute to my store. I travel on quite a few back roads with deer, so the lights have helped me see far down the road.
I also put a conversion in my wife's 2005 4Runner's low beams.
Great stuff!

Those are OEM headlights fitted at factory - see headlight washer flaps. That car would have Xenon set to present.

GX HID Kit. Anyone Ever Heard of These?
I went to a somewhat reputable installer for HID kits by my friends over at Mercedes Benz of Miami but to be honest, I have never heard of this brand. I did some searching around online and they are more specifically for Lexus vehicles. The guy wants $190 for the kit and $30 for the installation process. Any thoughts?

Hi,
They should list out many kits. The kits I bought from then are the Apexcone ones at 65$. They should have plenty of options for bulb type and then color. I'm on my phone right now so ill check it out later and let you know.

I've just used the lifetime warranty on my Apexcone 55w kit recently. I had a bulb failure and sent it off. The new one is on the way back now. Easy to deal with. I haven't needed error cancellers, either.. but I seem to be in the minority.

Replacing Lights help
I have a 06 C230 Sport.
I have been searching and am looking to find out the exact bulbs to replace for my daytime and fogs. (Got the Headlights figured out) I see people referencing their manual. Well I do not have one. I did get one online but it just seems general features of the car.
Can someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Has anyone tried this product? I've been reading about the other brands, but this one looked really nice. I have a 2004 C240 and would like to update the headlights.

Only drawback I've heard is that they don't stand up well with prolonged HID usage if you were considering that route (obviously, since they are halogen/non-xenon projectors it isn't advisable anyway). If you're sticking with halogens, you should be fine.
Let us know how they are and post some pictures if you snag some

It looks like both of you guys have had good experiences with the Apexcone kits. I'm looking at the Prolumen HID kit for $99. Not bad but are the Error Code Eliminators necessary if an MB tech installs them?

Sweet! Thanks, now to see if I can do it myself or have to find someone, it didn't look too hard from the pictures, but taking that inside wheelwell panel off doesn't look that easy.
Well definately post some pics up when if i get it done, (gotta pass the wife first) haha
Thanks!!

Personally I think the Halo around the lights are BMW style only. I wouldnt throw them on my car but everyone has a different taste. They look like Depo and there has been discussion about them and the light output isnt all that great. I bought clean halogen OEM lights and I am saving up for OEM Bix in the near future. I think OEM is the way to go with headlights but I have seem some HID kits people use and they turn out pretty nice. You have a few options for headlights is all I am saying.
