Any AfterMarket in-dash gps systems for 06-C230?
Hey folks,
Any ideas on what i can get for in-dash gps/radio that will fit on a 06 c-230 sport? any after market options? i have looked on line and the usual suspects seem not to have the right harnesses, trim pieces, etc. - pioneer, clarion, jvc, and Eclipse from crutchfield.com which has has this to say on my car options:
Installation Details for your 2006 C-Class
To install this product, you’ll have to modify your vehicle.
You will need to fabricate a mounting kit in order to install your new receiver.
You'll lose the factory navigation feature if the factory radio is removed.
thanks for your help.

This radio kit will work for you but it's only for single din. You will need to mod the kit to fit a double din.
according to cruthfield, THIS wiring harness will fit you.
If you don't mind single din but not a fan of any flip out screens. You might want to check out the JVC KD-NX5000

if you dont have an ipod and want a built-in harddrive, an extra cd slot, and a smarter/more responsive navigation... the AVIC-z2 just came out and is nice as well.
i just dont think the interface looks as nice as d3, and its priced pretty high

up until i posted the question, i had no idea of what to do or what to look for you guys certainly made it easier.
I've been looking through the suggestions and i have a couple more questions;
can any of the systems mentioned, be fully integrated with the steering wheel buttons? i.e. phone button on the steering wheel.
does anyone know about traffic updates on these units?
I'm thinking, I'll probably won't install it myself. any recommendations on where to go? stick to places like circuit city, or look for a local car stereo shop here in Atlanta?

I've seen the JVC on display, the screen is crisp and bright. Very good hu, although as the review states, the navigation maps need improvement. Solution: get the model with no navi and just use a portable navi device like alpine blackbird, pioneer, garmin, tom tom, etc. This way you can enjoy the benefits of the jvc audio/video capabilities for less price, and have the ability to use navi on your other vehicles. Besides, how often would we be needing navi when most of our driving is done locally?

any loss of features? can you still use any of the steering wheel buttons?
it looks fantastic. where did you get it installed?
what kind of din/dash kit did you use?
does this unit have traffic update options?
can it be connected to the existing cd changer?
does it have Canadian maps as well as US?
where did you have it installed? self, dealer, retailer?

That is actually Powa's pictures. It was a lot of work to search through his posts to find them, so I just made it convenient for anyone else who came across this thread. Better direct your questions to him. =)

Have you considered installing the stock COMAND? It fully integrates with the steering wheel controls and instrument cluster display, plays MP3's, can have an AUX audio input connected. You can contact Steve at Mbenznl.com - he can install it for you on his next visit.
Edit: here's my thread with pics of the COMAND installed
