Help with C Coupe trade-in / valuation question
I'm looking to trade-in my 2003 C320 coupe.
Any guidance on whether this is a fair offer is appreciated.
20k miles, great condition
silver / black leather
automatic
bose
pano roof
CD changer
MB extended warranty until 3/1/2010
Orig sticker was $33.8k (not counting the extended warranty)
I was offered $14k by the dealer.
I know the extended warranty disappears if I trade to a dealer instead of sell to a person.
So, what do you think is a fair (mid-market, not great) price on this car for trade-in or private party sale?
I've been out of touch with the market for a while, so am unsure.
Thanks again!

Kelly's blue book
Excellent
$14,025
Good
$13,250
Fair
$11,855
So yea that is a good deal. The typically mileage on an 03 is 60K so it does have very low mileage. Those values above for trade-in values with 20K miles. Hope that helps.

Thanks...
Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm a little bummed about losing all the value of the 3yr extended warranty though. Don't those list for like $2500? (I got it for a little less)
There are tons of these for sale on autotrader with more miles in the low to mid 20's.
I don't really want to deal with a person-to-person sale if I can avoid it. Maybe I'll ask the dealer for $2-3k more and see where that goes.
Any other advice people have is greatly appreciated. I might go ahead with this trade-in later today...!

ok... by looking at carmax... i think you shouldn't do it. ALOT of the basic c230's in manual are selling around 17's.
this one is an automatic, is older, has almost no options, and isn't even a c320:
http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/...spx?id=4263232
its selling for alot more than what the dealer is trying to give you.
the only thing about carmax is their inspection and guarantee that its not a lemon. if you are the first and only owner AND if you pay like around 100 for a comparable inspection you should be asking at least 19+ from private party.
screw kelly blue book.

its easy to sell private party... take some pics, post in craigslist, and i guarantee you'll get calls. just say stuff like "only one owner", "pampered the car", "clean title", "fully loaded"... etc... they'll come to you. its at least worth a try!

Remember
I just traded in my c320 Sprot with 24,000. When you trade in you pay the taxes on the difference of the trade and the car. So, if you sell privetly you have to remember that you must get about 2000 more just for that tax difference on the car.
Example Tade in = 14 for trade in on 35,000 car pay taxes on 21,000
If you sell privertly you pay on taxes on 35000
So if you sell on your own, you have to sell it for 16,500 or 17 000 to make out good.
Which you might get if you get the right person

Would you mind sharing what you got for the trade-in amount? Also, any big options on the car?

Offer raised
Well, the dealer just raised the offer to 16k. I'm taking it and will probably never look at this thread again lest I find out I was an idiot to take that little (!) I know the price on the new care is a good deal, so I'm pretty sure he's not just moving profit over here.
Dealer suggested I might also be able to cancel the MB extended warranty and maybe get some $ back. We'll see if that will work.
