CL203 Coupe Pano-roof Maintenance - MB lube Grease Part #s, gears, & fixes

Your problem, while being an annoyance is not unique. You just won't get the torque you need with the closing tool.
I have a post about what happened with my roof, and the DIY to get it closed with a cordless drill. I have so been here.
Search for Stuck Pano roof. Or wade through the drivel of my posts accredited to my name.
What you will need is the gear, NOT the worm drive. The gear is a very soft metal and plastic, that wears faster than the worm drive. What has happened is that the gear is now lowered down from the worm drive. You can confirm this by seeing the actuator motor cover being off the mount. The motor is to the left of the overhead console. When you use a Dewalt (or like) cordless driver, you'll force it back into place to connect with the worm drive. Unfortunately, you'll likely need to get a new actuator. Honestly, I have a whole DIY that will help. I'm just too lazy to link you.
PM for specifics. I didn't note if you were in SoCal, but if you are, I can help you out. Well to get it closed at least.

Thanks.

Eff, fixing pano roofs is a HUGE deal. You are looking at mucho work. I'm a DIY guy, but from what I understand, getting it to work properly really is a Dealer thing.

Now, If I could just figure out how to synch the car to get the shade to still work, I'd feel better.

its starting to be a huge hassle... I really love the way my car handles and the performance of it... the engine just has this beautiful sound and plenty of power for a daily driver but im really starting to see a trend of cheap everything else that is going to stop me from buying a mercedes again... this is my first mercedes and while i understand its their lowest end... it should still have quality... there is simply no reason to be broken at this early in its life... sure its at its 5th year mark... but it only has 35k miles on it... and it broke 8k ago.... sooo aggravated right now at this car...
I know this post was made awhile back but this is the exact same problem I am having with my car...if anyone ahs found the solution I would appreciate some advice.

My sunroof wont close, it keeps make a terrible loud noise, like a jackhammer, when i try to get it down. It goes backwards to some extent but when i use the one touch it wont go all the way back.
From the search that i did im pretty sure that what i need is some kind of cable guide or something. the part is a few dollars and takes half an hour to install but nowhere were the steps to the installaiton included. If anyone has done this please, please, please post the steps. It's raining and even though nothing gets into my car its still brings me anxiety.
Thanks in advance.
I am glad to see that you got your roof closed and everythign bu tI have this exact same problem and I was wondering if you were able to get the problem fixed?

Good luck.

Mercedes? Looks like the grease is $30 online, and the paste is about 14.
Geez.
Wouldn't some nice synthetic grease like this be just fine?

I have the small sunroof for the sedan not a panoramic one like the coup.
Here is what I found: my sunroof wouldn't work on cold days if I parked my car outside and it wouldn't close at 70 mph on the highway if all of the windows were up. It would auto reverse like something was in the way.
After having the dealer do a service B and not fix the problem (they are suppose to grease the sunroof). I bought the grease.
I needed to apply the grease to the sliding blocks on the sunroof.
After applying some grease and cycling the sunroof it works better than ever.
Now my sunroof works all of the time. I couldn't be happier.
Thanks
Paul

15 grand for an LCD sunroof that is either opaque or clear...but not black.
I guess it's to keep the satellite's from seeing what the uber wealthy are doing back there? Who knows?!
In any case, I saw a post that there this guy "Rusty" from another forum, who sells film canisters of the stuff for 5 bucks!
I'll check with him tomorrow.
001 989 46 51 Wow, MSRP 75 bucks!

from a place that sells a film canister worth for 10 bucks.
Thing is I found a picture of the Lube and it's a large tin of a different kind of grease `

Update: I called MB of Ft. Lauderdale (one of the places that sells online.)
They stated the 001 989 50 51 pn crosses over to 0009893660
which costs even more! And they said it's a little tube the size of a tube of super glue! Jeez. Apparently it's a "Molding Lubricant" and it's used on all the "rubber" on the car.
Goes for 34 bucks ++ shipping online, but I was quoted $56 if I was to walk in! MSRP shows as $42.50 !
The point being, if the sunroof gets stuck to the rubber, it can burn out the motor. So I guess Mercedes figures it's worth it?
A friend who owns a detail shop mentioned the 303 stuff.
They make what's called "Areospace Protectant".
303 Products Inc.: 303 Aerospace Protectant
which is the stuff you would use for the "rubber" seals.
Well if you read their lit, it's not rubber, which is the whole point it's actually "EPDM".
So their stuff cleans, restores and protects the EPDM.
"03 Aerospace Protectant makes EPDM seals look like new and PREVENTS sticking and tearing."
If you go to 303's webpage you can get free sample of everything for $5 shipping, including a 2 oz bottle of the Aerospace Protectant.
So it looks like the paste is used on the front, and the
the other stuff on the rear and seals.
