CL203 Coupe Pano-roof Maintenance - MB lube Grease Part #s, gears, & fixes
Extended warranty sucks.
If you want technical information on the W203 there is a better forum to visit, as some of the more technically inclined members post more on other forums. In fact there is a thread on another forum dedicated to panoramic roof problems. Don't ask me for the name of the forum, that is against the rules of this site.
This forum seems to focus on: OEM mods, white/HID lights, rims, and warranty repairs.
Anything outside of that and you are SOL.
I have a 2001 C230K Panorama. I seem to have a bit of a problem with my Pano roof in that when i try to open or close it, it moves very slowly and then eventually stops... like its run out of juice! If i wait a minute or so and try again it moves a bit more then dies again.
Anyone ever come across this before? any suggestions?
Thanks

Here is some info on fixing a inevitable Panoramic Roof problem. My roof refused to close, even when using the supplied MBZ tool.

I got her stuck about an inch from being fully closed. This meant, I constantly got wind noise while driving, lots of interior dust, and worse a lack of security because the roof was open 24-7. Given that California's rainy season is here, I had to do something.
Please note, I did not want to remove the headliner, just have enought room to close the Pano roof. To get the headliner clearance to work, here is what to do:
Remove the sun visors.
Remove the rear view mirror. Take the mirror, and pull down on one side. Just pop it off. Its okay it'll come down. At the base, there is a mount with three torx screws that must come off.
Remove the black plastic Teleaid Box. This will just snap off by gently pulling away from the windshield.
Below is the picture with instructions for removing the lighting panel.

Once the light cover is off, this is what you see. Notice that the motor has a cover that is being pushed down. This kept the gears from engaging. Origionally, i thought it was a motor issue, unfortunately it was in the tubes. In the center of this motor cover is an Allen Head opening. By turning this, you should be able to get the roof open/closed. But in my case, the guide tube need A LOT more torque.

The guide tube has a stiff gear. I attempted to use the MBZ provided tool to close the window, but I couldn't get any torque to the gears with that flimsy piece. So, it was stripping the guide tube gear. Funny how the easy to replace piece has the toughest metal, and the hard to replace guide tube gear is a softer metal.

Here is how to close that POS

This DIY may need some editing for clarity. Feel free to make comments. I am in no way responsible for you following any advice or instruction contained in this post.
your cars been going thru alot of minor problems lately. and you tend to solve them and post them up.
and i'd probably come back to this thread soon enough. so props to you!

You live in NY, so I think you have a different type of driving. I actually did the same drive that I did earlier today. And while REALLY trying to drive in a gas conserving mode, I could only get 32.7 mpg. WTF?
I still have to deal with a Pogoing Driver's side door lock. I'll post that up when I get to it. May sound silly, but I know I have to take down the doors air bag. Pardon me for being a little scared of that airbag going BOOM in my face. I'm single right now, and I needs my face.
I just wish I could leave well enough alone. Now that the engine runs to performance, I have a new laundry list of what I want to do. Maybe if I click my heels three times I'll get this car bug out of me....

SO I just want to do it myself now. Has anybody ever done this? I searched a read.. I know now how to get the console down to work on it but what happens from there? Anybody know part numbers of stuff I might need?
BTW I called the local MB dealer for some tune up stuff. He quoted me $24 / spark plug.
I laughed at him. Then he refused to give me the part number so I just told him I was going to buy it elsewhere anyway.

The part number for the shade is 203-784-00-09 and the part number for the grease that is used is 001-989-50-51
As an aside, I also have a idiot light on for "light sensor"
On my countless searches I found that this idiot light may mean low battery...and was wondering if the roof has a voltage interupt where if there isn't enough juice, it doesn't open.
The car starts a little slow on cranking...but runs fine, and my stereo still pounds with no dimming of interior lights.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm going to pull the battery this weekend and get it tested.
Thanks all

the motor seems to be working fine and ive gotten to the point where my sun roof will open just fine... only it doesnt have the automatic open to the two open "configurations." Half open and full open... it just kinda opens by inching backward with each press, stopping immediately if you let go (even if you use the second stage backwards press for automatic open). And when it closes it grinds forward... you literally have to press forward against it while holding the button to get it closed... needless to say i dont really open it alot but whats the point of having a car with a sunroof if you cant enjoy a sunny day with it open.
