My tilt and sun shade work fine but the the roof will not slide open. I heard a crunch one day last year, and it no longer opens more than an inch or two. I guess I'm going to have to take down the headliner and see what is wrong. I saw a pic above where someone had access to the motor with the headliner in place. How did they get the motor. I refuse to spend 3K to fix it so I can sell it.

Pano good as new, almost
My sunshade was stuck open, since my pano wouldn't fully close. MB dealer told me there was a problem with the rails (upwards of $2k to fix), but when the motor was replaced it works fine luckily.
Except after a few days a piece of plastic broke and fell off of the track for the rear sunshade and now its stuck open, but as everything else works, I don't feel like spending the time or money to fix just the rear sunshade

I'm really psyched. I finally took a look at the problem and it turns out to be a broken wind deflector bracket that was jaming the sun roof when it got two inches open. I start another thread on the repair with Pics.

2002 C230K pano roof problems
I had the pano roof cleaned and lubed at my local dealer. When I attempted to open it, the shade opened fine but the roof did not open. It finally opened after 6-7 attempts but only 2-3" at a time. I closed the roof but then the shade would not close. I opened the roof half-way then tried to close it. It closed to within 3" of totally closed then a loud grinding noise came from the switch console and it stopped. I tried to manually close the roof, but still got the grinding noise.
The cleaning/lubing was preventative. Could that have caused the pano roof problems (or coincidence)? I don't know how deeply into the guts of the roof they go. The roof worked fine prior. Thanks.

Yes, the new lube might have released old dirt and might have caused your troubles. I beleive there's a thread here somewhere that shows how to clean and service the tracks. Do a search or take it back to the dealer and explain to them that it started giving you trouble after they lubed and serviced it.

Pano Roof Diagnosis
Hi Guys,
Got a new to me C230 with InOp Sunroof.
I have searched the forums and still have not found a Flow Chart or Step by Step diagnosis on the Pano Roof.
Any help would be great, haven't got the Repair CD yet.
Thanks,
Dave

I would gladly send you a few bucks and post the repair up on here.
If you like send me your Paypal.
As a newbie i searched the threads but could not find the Diagnosis.
I tried resequencing but to no avail.
The roof does nothing, no gears grinding and any noise.
I saved the fuse charts that someone else posted up yesterday to check those, but i can hear a click so don't think it is that.
Figure i might as well learn to fix the roof as it seams that they go bad often from what i have read.
I was thinking about manually cranking it open, but wanted to read the factory info first before i break something expensive!
Other than that the car needs a "B" Service, Pogo fixed on drivers side, Cabin Filter housing is missing, Cup Holder, minor stuff.
Thanks,
Dave

pano roof repair
Try closing the interior shade all the way . It may take a few jogs of the button to get it all the way closed . This may reset the window ,it worked on mine, it's kind of like the door windows need to be fully closed for them to resinc. good luck

I found that the dealer that i bought mine from disconnected the wiring up at the interior light control.
I plugged the wiring back in and now the Sunroof Motor makes a stripping noise.
So i guess i need a Sunroof Motor Gear to start.
Does anyone know if you can now buy just the Gear separately?
Dave

PM me an email address. I have some pdf's to send you on the pano roof, too big to post.
And others have been through this I think...
didn't emrliquidlife fix his?
FYI- A small tidbit of info, the sunroof is made by a company called
Webasto. Looks like they have authorized dealers all over the US! It's possible individual parts might be had through them
http://www.webastoshowroom.com
I know this because when the dealer replaced mine it had a plastic piece under the wind deflector with the word "Webasto" on it.
I always wondered what the hell Webasto meant...and then I saw just recently on "Pimp my ride" they were installing a Webasto sunroof on a freakin' AMC Pacer. I always wonder about that show....they fix up wrecks and leave the mechanicals untouched.
Do a search on the B service.
Easy to do yourself.
