Also just got the Sunroof tool from MB today.
Does anyone know if or where you can just buy the gear?
I know i need that for sure, grinding.

So a new guy moved in across the street and i see he has a slightly modded 3000gt. I went to take to him and found out hes a mechanic. Started talking about mods and different things, he asked who did my tint and if the pano was tinted as well. Told him I think the plastic gears broke since it just clicks. He say he could have a guy make some metal gears for us it i took it out. So i showed him the noise it makes, but it didn't do it, the pano opened. I was like WTF! So today I opened the roof completely and checked if there was something in the track since it wont close. Since it opens, i figure the gears aren't broken. I tried to manually close, if I press the part in where the allen wrench goes, it will close using the button. While opening it did stop even 5-6 inches or so. What can I do to fix it. Do i need to tighten the motor screws holding it up?

u had to go playing with that damn thing again didnt u...I have to play with mine too...glad to see someone is back on this project...I am in tax prep season so not a lot of free time but I plan to take mine apart and do some fiddling soon...but for n ow I suggest trying to close it manually and pressingthe button at the same time while pushing it close from the back...yes it may take the assistance of another person...I think we should really try to assemble a team to work on this and then fly them aorund to each coupe and repair them all

i still might have the metal gears built, if so i will have a couple of sets made so you guys could get some too.
I tried pressing the whole motor assembly up and it works, without pressing the hex in, so i guess i need to tighten mine.

Well mine aint broke yet....but if this gear is a problem, I'd like to have one on hand.
Assuming it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
I'm tellin' you..engineers have access to catalogs of stuff like this....
someone out there must have this...

CL203 Pano-roof Gears
Since the ears in the pano's motors are plastic and tend to break over time, I thought that what happened to mine. I talked to my neighbor about it and he said I could give him the gears and he will have one of his co-workers make a set of metal ones. He is supposedly a really good machinist. I am not sure how long or the cost yet but wanted to see whats the interest on here for you guys.

Man.... I've been to the dealers twice, and they tell me they have to take the whole pano moonroof apart for them to see the problem. Several german car mechanics have told me the same thing. ![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Problem is I think the motor... but the roof opens up all the way but it doesnt close at all, and manually has to be pushed down. So not its closed. Im afraid of resyching it and getting stuck open again... AHHHh!
Also the blinds itself are stuck... so I have the hot sun (in Florida!) in my face at all times... lol
Has anyone actually gone through this? I've expected this to happen but not now! I estimate this would cost alot of money. And dont know if its even worth it.... Any help would be appreciated... Thanks

My rear shade is stuck.
Same problem with my roof, if you pop the light piece and push up on the left motor it will close. Its the gears I believe but maybe the motor can be tighten up?

mine was stuck open when I bought it (at an auction) with about 47K miles; a 3 inch long spring had popped out of it somewhere. Since it was under warranty, I had the dealer fix it, and it's worked okay since, about 3.5 years and 43K more miles. I've had it closed all (wicked cold and snowy) winter, and now that I'm ready to open it, it's stuck closed. Sunshade goes back and forth, but the pano won't flip up. I've been tempted to try to push up on it while holding the button, 'cuz I assume it's just stuck on poorly lubed parts. Shame on me, but I never did any preventative lubing, even though I was hearing lots of rubbery squeaks when closing. Maybe I'll try some WD40 with the little red straw before I push and hold the button.........

the motor is torque sensitive. so if its hard to open (no lube) the motor will quickly stop trying. You have to manually open the pano, than lube the rails and manually close/open a few times. that should loosen it up. Or wait for a really warm day and let it sit in the sun to allow the grease/lube to become less stiff.
just had this issue during the cold NY winter.

my sunroof problems
I have a 2002 C230 and am having sunroof problems as well. I went to open the sunroof and the drivers side started coming up but the passenger side stayed down. Then it locked up with the drivers side up a couple of inches. The motor is working and it is trying to open and close but the sunroof just twists and binds up. If you look down inside from the outside you can see an arm that is bent or broken and I fished out a couple of plastic parts. MB dealer wants $1000 to just look at it. Says the headliner and all needs to come out to get down in there. I would like to try to manually close it but I can't find the crank key or where the manual crank case is located

1999 CLK320 (sold), 2007 C230 SS (gone), 2000 Grand Marquis, 2011 CR-Z, stay tuned...
I love my sunroof so much, I hope in never breaks! If it does, I don't know what I'll do... definitely too much to get it fixed. Hopefully they got it right by 2007.
