CL203 Coupe Pano-roof Maintenance - MB lube Grease Part #s, gears, & fixes
all i could say about that is when both windows are down, wind kinda makes the noise from the cover.....it's kinda annoying but....it's alright sometimes....

Basically, the roller mechanism that takes up the cloth is just like an old style, spring loaded, roller window shade. I can remember taking one apart as a kid, so I know exactly what they're talking about. The problem seems to be that they loose their tension over time, or maybe never really had enough tension to begin with and just give up. I've asked them to look into adjusting this in some way, but at this point it looks like they'll just need to replace both shades.
To replace the shades, as you probably already know, the entire headliner needs to come down. Then they need to remove the glass to get to the actual shade mechanism to replace. The other problem I'm told is that the clips for the headliner are notorious for breaking. Before my dealer embarks on this process, they're going to make sure to have extra clips and whatnot on hand.
Mine has been broken for a couple of weeks now, so I've just been dealing with it. I kind of put off posting anything because I was waiting to see what happened and hopefully provide as much information as possible. I'll probably call the dealer today, since the parts should be here soon, if not already, and see when I can get this scheduled. I also plan on documenting the entire process, like I did with the shifter install, so I'll be taking lots of pictures and posting them here.
Good luck with yours and I'll keep everyone posted.

now that it is sunny, i've been using it to close it off when parked during the day. i just noticed that when i try to open it, the rear one doesn't fully open. i scheduled a trip to the dealer (in a month though) to get it fixed. hopefully.
so, b/c i usually don't look back to that shade, it may have been happening for a while. of course, for most of the time, i never closed it.

My rear blind only moves about 2" now before stopping. I'm sure that service people are going to really get sick of hearing about problems with these.
To tell you the truth, if they'd pay for a limo tint on both of them, and throw in a little money or lighted doorsills, I'd probably take it. I don't see this as not being a recurring problem, in all honesty.

Is this the second episode with your blinds? Didn't you have the whole mechanism replaced quite awhile ago? And, if so, now you are having problems with the replacement? The sun shade was one of my concerns when shopping for the car. It looked vulnerable. But, so far I have not had trouble.
I think your idea of the roof limo tint is a good one. Hmmm.

This time, I'd guess that it's not the rollers, but something else, but I could be wrong.
And if this happens after the warranty, I'm definitely going with the tint idea. Not really interested in semi-annual payments to the local service dept. to get this "fixed".
As an added bonus, I get a decent excuse to leave early on a Friday! That's a win-win proposition, baby!
No smurfs were harmed in the composition and posting of this message.
Just remember, tommy, don't let any of that lube fall on those seats. And, with a 4-year warranty, you'll probably be on your 3rd set of blinds by the time it expires.
regards,
Waldorf
I'll give it a try. As I already know, the pizza oil does not adequately lubricate the sunroof rails, so don't try that one.
Maybe you guys should have Muppet Labs whip up something...
Because I'm having same problem. It's kinda annoying and seems
like getting worse every day.
How many of you experienced this?
How long did the dealer take to fix the problem?

I just made a Service B appointment and told them about the squeeky roof too.
They told me to bring the car in 8:30 in the morning of June 1st, and also said they'll have loaner for me to drive that day

I've never driven other models, so I'm little excited.
But hofully they give me the benz loaner
Thanks people~~

I searched this board and found a previous thread that discussed "oiling" the rubber seal. Last night I applies a light coat of spray lube to the entire seal and that seemed to work. I was surprised because the rattle sounded more like a "mechanical" noise rather than a rubber "squeek". Anyway, this morning the noise was back, but much quieter than it was before.
My guess is that the seal gets dirty and causes the seal face to slip against the roof panel due to reduced "stick-tion" between the two surfaces. This slipping and rubbing causes the noise. I think the lube may have been a mistake and I'm going to try cleaning the rubber seal with soap or rubbing alcohol and see if that works. If not, I'll try a heavier lube and wait it out 'till Service A.
what dealer did you buy yours at, seeing as you're in columbia? i bought mine at eutomotorcars in bethesda and they guarantee a benz loaner
BTW, bought mine at Euromotor as well and have had an MB loaner each time I brought it in. Ususally, the loaner has less than 5k miles. However, the last time I got a C Class wagon with a faulty fuel pump -- they replaced it with an E320!
