i tend to leave them open as well... interior seems too dark when they are closed! it is true tho that the design seems a bit fishy and maybe is not so durable... anyway good luck with yours and hopefully this will not be a common problem.

hokus hokus hokus you dont want to know how bad the experience was. first of all they ran out of loaners so they gave me a rental car instead. that car smelled like baby throw up so i had to drive with windows down at all times. my alarm clock radio was better than the one in the car and it was the LAOS. at least i abused the heck out of that rental. i can truely say when i got my car back, i truely appreciated my benz.

Tommy... Now that you mention it, I too am having problems with the blinds not completely rolling into their home when open. At first it was only the front one, and now both are not working correctly. I can lightly push up on the cloth to help it along, and they'll retract all the way. I talked to my Service Manager about it and they've had to fix one already and said it was a real pain in the ****.

Basically, the roller mechanism that takes up the cloth is just like an old style, spring loaded, roller window shade. I can remember taking one apart as a kid, so I know exactly what they're talking about. The problem seems to be that they loose their tension over time, or maybe never really had enough tension to begin with and just give up. I've asked them to look into adjusting this in some way, but at this point it looks like they'll just need to replace both shades.

To replace the shades, as you probably already know, the entire headliner needs to come down. Then they need to remove the glass to get to the actual shade mechanism to replace. The other problem I'm told is that the clips for the headliner are notorious for breaking. Before my dealer embarks on this process, they're going to make sure to have extra clips and whatnot on hand.

Mine has been broken for a couple of weeks now, so I've just been dealing with it. I kind of put off posting anything because I was waiting to see what happened and hopefully provide as much information as possible. I'll probably call the dealer today, since the parts should be here soon, if not already, and see when I can get this scheduled. I also plan on documenting the entire process, like I did with the shifter install, so I'll be taking lots of pictures and posting them here.

Good luck with yours and I'll keep everyone posted.

tommy, the curse of the rolling shade struck me!

now that it is sunny, i've been using it to close it off when parked during the day. i just noticed that when i try to open it, the rear one doesn't fully open. i scheduled a trip to the dealer (in a month though) to get it fixed. hopefully.

so, b/c i usually don't look back to that shade, it may have been happening for a while. of course, for most of the time, i never closed it.

Young, I dropped mine off this morning. I'll post the results when I know them.

My rear blind only moves about 2" now before stopping. I'm sure that service people are going to really get sick of hearing about problems with these.

To tell you the truth, if they'd pay for a limo tint on both of them, and throw in a little money or lighted doorsills, I'd probably take it. I don't see this as not being a recurring problem, in all honesty.

Tommy,
Is this the second episode with your blinds? Didn't you have the whole mechanism replaced quite awhile ago? And, if so, now you are having problems with the replacement? The sun shade was one of my concerns when shopping for the car. It looked vulnerable. But, so far I have not had trouble.

I think your idea of the roof limo tint is a good one. Hmmm.

Deb, yep, it is. Good memory! The first was in October, in second week of ownership, no less. What they did was replace the "tension rollers" , as they had broken. Cheap plastic, of course.

This time, I'd guess that it's not the rollers, but something else, but I could be wrong.

And if this happens after the warranty, I'm definitely going with the tint idea. Not really interested in semi-annual payments to the local service dept. to get this "fixed".

Just got the word - my car's done! They had to replace the entire rear blind assembly. Can you imagine how much that would've been off-warranty?

As an added bonus, I get a decent excuse to leave early on a Friday! That's a win-win proposition, baby!

I have heard that the shade difficulties have been traced to a lubrication problem. MB is admitting that their lubricant is inadequate, and is now recommending Taco Bell Chalupa Oil, Part Number TB 203 008 198. Remember, it is not just a great lubricant, it is a food group!

That's a god one Statler... LOL!

Just remember, tommy, don't let any of that lube fall on those seats. And, with a 4-year warranty, you'll probably be on your 3rd set of blinds by the time it expires.

regards,
Waldorf

Lynn, what TSB was that?

I'll give it a try. As I already know, the pizza oil does not adequately lubricate the sunroof rails, so don't try that one.

Maybe you guys should have Muppet Labs whip up something...

squeeky roof

I remember one of the coupe owner had a squeeky roof problem.
Because I'm having same problem. It's kinda annoying and seems
like getting worse every day.

How many of you experienced this?

How long did the dealer take to fix the problem?

In other posts, a number of coupe owners have had their rollers replaced on the shade. Might as well get it checked.

I just made a Service B appointment and told them about the squeeky roof too.
They told me to bring the car in 8:30 in the morning of June 1st, and also said they'll have loaner for me to drive that day
I've never driven other models, so I'm little excited.
But hofully they give me the benz loaner

The other day, my roof started rattling so bad that I had to leave it tilted so that I wouldn't go insane. I pretty much hated the car that day (I can't tolerate squeeks or rattles EVER!). It's got 5500 miles and the noise occured at all times while the car was in motion (not just "big" bumps). I played around and found that if I applied light upward pressure on the rear of the sliding roof glass the rattling would stop. It had nothing to do with the blinds.

I searched this board and found a previous thread that discussed "oiling" the rubber seal. Last night I applies a light coat of spray lube to the entire seal and that seemed to work. I was surprised because the rattle sounded more like a "mechanical" noise rather than a rubber "squeek". Anyway, this morning the noise was back, but much quieter than it was before.

My guess is that the seal gets dirty and causes the seal face to slip against the roof panel due to reduced "stick-tion" between the two surfaces. This slipping and rubbing causes the noise. I think the lube may have been a mistake and I'm going to try cleaning the rubber seal with soap or rubbing alcohol and see if that works. If not, I'll try a heavier lube and wait it out 'till Service A.

One day in the shop, that is all. Not been a problem since.
So what was their solution? Is there a revised seal design? Do tell.

I had mine in recently for the rattling sunroof (not interior shades). They needed two days but were able to pinpoint the problem to loose bracket(s). Have had no problem with the sunroof since then.

BTW, bought mine at Euromotor as well and have had an MB loaner each time I brought it in. Ususally, the loaner has less than 5k miles. However, the last time I got a C Class wagon with a faulty fuel pump -- they replaced it with an E320!
