my2cents

If your paying for it go ahead and bust it.

But here's my take on this and I could be wrong. These guys didn't buy their car....mommy or daddy did. Of course they could be JUST STUPID. These are the same guys who will posting complaints about how their car is a piece of junk later and how it's falling apart.

Can't believe I'm reading this crap on a MB site. This is the stupid s..t you read on the Honda/Acrua sites. The make believe 'fast and furious' crowd.

Just a rant.............sorry.

So down-market??? a 26k car is so down market from your rich mans C240 6 speed?

Just to let u know i could have got a brand new C240 auto, with leather for $75.00 a month cheaper than my C230 but i still chose the Down-market car All i am trying to say its not that hard for anyone with a C230 to afford a C240, especially the 6 speed.

You Hatchback owners are so sensitive!

Everyone knows the Hatchback is an attempt by MB to go downmarket in the US. To compete more with Subarus, Hondas and VW Golfs. Who did you think MB intended their 4-cylinder Hatchback to compete with??

MB execs have openly talked about the risks of going downmarket in the US with the Hatchback (brand dilution, etc).

From one of my favorite magazines, AutoWeek: "To expand its reach, Stuttgart began pushing into the downward end of the luxury market, with cars like the C230 Sports Coupe and its cheaper interior materials, tractor-like Kompressor motor and less than $26,000 sticker."

"Downmarket" is not only in relation to price, but to body style and intended customers. A economy-car styled Hatchback is a downmarket auto in the US - and attracts a more down-market crowd.

The posts on this board are perfect evidence of that. Before the Hatchback, how many MB boards were filled with such wonderful posts as:

1. "How can I make my tires chirp?"

2. "How can I install purple license plate lights?"

3. "How can I install underhood neon lights?"

4. "Who sells the best fake Xenon light bulbs?" (like a Honda Civic site, 20% of the posts here are now about screwing around with the lightbulbs on the car - what is it with rice and lights??)

5. "LoOk At Me i CaN TyPe LiKe ThIs"

6. "How do I get stains out of my CLOTH seats?"

7. "Can I do a reverse-to-drive transmission drop at 30 mph without hurting the car?"

8. "Wen exccellirating or breaking I heer a noize coming from over their."

All a reflection of the depths of the market MB is trying to explore with the Hatchback.

Uh, right, and who's the one trying to feel secure by saying we're downmarket to your mighty 240 when the coupe is only $4000CDN less than the C240.

6. "How do I get stains out of my CLOTH seats?"
Good one; the C240 has cloth seats.

I do agree with the others in this forum that worked hard for their automobile and was not given to them by their parents at the age of 18 (at the age of 18 I had a klunker that I learned to drive on that). It is horrible that others are tearing up a great auto just because they got it for free. The "baby" you reefer to is really not your baby, if it was you would not be trying to destroy it. I can see why others are complaining that their car is a lemon, if they destroy the vehicle and then expect Mercedes to warrantee it they are nuts (that includes any modifications). I worked very hard for my vehicle and I would never do anything to cause it harm, I can call it my baby because it is babied and pampered not thrown down and stomped on!

I really don't get reviewers like AutoWeek sometimes, prehaps they overlook the fact that:

1. The 2.3L came from the SLK, are they calling that tractor-like too?
2. The C240 does come with cloth, and its finally nice to have a luxury car where you don't have to take leather and wood.

I'll admit, the kinda posts you mentioned are funny on a MB board, but what's the alternative? I've read some of the other posts and if you want to stereotype people, then there's a whole other stereotypically poster on these boards too, the MB "snob".

I prefer the "ricer" posts to the "snob" "I'm better than you because I drive the next model up" posts.

Yeah, us kids in the hatchback. I'm so tired of SoCals, dumb-a$$, closed minded remarks I could scream. He says hatchbacks dont last, hmm lets think here?
Honda civic- still making them
Ford focus-on the 10 best list for 4 years
Toyota Celica-good car
Supra-making a new one
RX-7-the new RX-8

I said this once earlier. If the kids have the hatchbacks, does that mean the old fart has the C240?

SoCal, so if and when a C320 Coupe comes up for sale from MB, will that be a Down Market car as well? I don't get it, I mean it is not the Coupe owners fault that MB happened to make the C Coupe a C230. I personally like the looks of the car, which is why I am getting one, the cost is just another benefit, even if it was more than the C240 I would get it. Then again I think the C240 is the bottom level Benz, just because of its engine. Same reason I would not buy a BMW 318 and even hesitate at looking at the 325Ci. I would actually still buy the C230 Coupe over the C320 Coupe just because I like the supercharged engine. But that is me.

every time i see an MB snob post on this board, i laugh as i remember the fact that MB is also the biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in the world. i don't suppose snobs care to associate themselves with the UNIMOG, though.

Come on guys, we really got to respect the power and status of his 168 hp C240. Just because a younger crowd drives the C230 doesnt mean we are 'fake' M-B owners, unless you consider all the old rich people that drive your high-class C240 to be 'real' M-B owners.

I thought Fuji Ind. of Japan made more commercial engines than all other makers combined... Looking for validation online...

When people start ricing out the C sedan like they rice out the Hatchback, and start posting the downmarket, childish kinds of posts that the Hatchback owners here post ("duhh, how can I do a burnout in my Hatchback" "duhhh, how can I put high intensity purple lights in my Hatchback", "I was kidnapped in my Hatchback but Tele-Aid saved my life") the C sedan will also have gone down-market.

You'll be able to tell if and when the content on a C sedan board is indistinguishable from the content on Honda ricer boards, and when the grammar, spelling and general indicia of education and intelligence of C sedan owners drops to around the 6th grade level.

If by "kids" you mean high school grads (or GED holders) who like to rice out their Hatchbacks, or young secretaries who like chrome wheels, and by "old farts" you mean an average age of around 49, college graduate, mastery of the English language, professional employment and median household income of around $98,000 (MB's own demographics), then yes.

Wow... Canada became a 3rd world country... damn... just for offering cloth in a C240... can a European comment if MB offers cloth in any of the versions sold there.

So where do I fit? 23 year old university graduate, engineering career, making $67K/year, in a household combined income $130K/year... I don't think I fit "kid" anymore... and I think I've surpassed the typical "old fart".
