I was driving home today and noticed my car felt very underpowered. Parked by gas station, did throttle reset. When I turned on the ignition, I noticed the Check Engine Light was on. Since I was only 2 miles away from a Mercedes Service Center, I drove in and told them my situation. They wrote down the symptoms (check engine light on, car lost power) and did a diagnosis. I was then driven home through their shuttle service. I was notified by phone that the problem was the Throttle Sensor and that they had to order a new part. I wasn't planning on letting my service manager know I had a sprint booster installed since I was afraid it might void the warranty. However, on the agreement sheet, it read "all parts removed will be discarded unless client requests otherwise" so I called my service manager and let him know that I had an aftermarket part that increases throttle sensitivity. He says neither him or the technician had seen the device and asked me where it was. I told him I didn't know as I didn't install it myself (lie). He then said, "well ok, but if the new throttle sensor installs and the car is still having the problem, it is likely the aftermarket apparatus is causing the problems." He didn't mention anything about my car's warrant being void, but Im still afraid that now the technicians know about it, they'll look for it/find it and try to blame/charge me for the defect throttle sensor. I still haven't gotten a call back from them and am pretty worried as to WHAT to do. There is a slight notion in my mind that the SB might be causing the problem, but I highly doubt it, as it was installed a week ago and ran fine with no problems. What would be the best course of action to take now? HELP!!!

The throttle sensor that will be replaced is exactly where you install the sprint booster. The entire throttle pedal assembly (gas) will be replaced. Also, the part can be had for ~$90 and is a more or less easy DIY.

Shoot... I hope SB is not the cause of it. I have my SB for about a few weeks now. So far so good, crossing my fingers.

i figured that thing would fry out something down the line, i never seemed to have trusted it and thats why ive been hesitant on getting one. luckily its cheap to replace its damages.

I was so eager to get one,now that I have one,I still haven't installed it(over 2 months now).I'm still not convinced it won't cause damage further down the line.

Why? It's a little signal interrupter for the throttle. The worst that will happens is what this guy saw -- a fault code for the throttle sensor. The sensor is not actually damaged. The code just needs to be cleared.

LOL! I've had my SB on for about eight months now with zero problems. Like jgsx said, it is only a signal interrupter for the throttle and does not have the capability of frying anything.

Don't start hating on the SB because one person gets a fault code. Alot of people were sceptic of the SB at first (to include myself) and took the first steps forward to test it out to find it is a very good and safe product that enhances performance. We all took the time to document our experiences in detail so that others would have the information needed to make sound purchasing decisions. STFF to read about our experiences.

For those who have never tried the SB, please sit back and keep your negative comments to yourself, as you can offer no real first hand experience. Y'all just end up scaring new people away from a good product.

For those who have had technical problems such as this gentleman is having, please offer him some guidance. The only thing I can suggest is to reseat the device. If that doesn't work, then the SB may be faulty and should be sent back to the vendor for repairs. Or, just leave it off completely if you are not satisfied. Are you even sure that the SB is causing this issue? Be careful about your thread subject because your thread title is putting the SB at fault when it may be something entirely else. I hope you can resolve this issue.

We all should understand that there are risks associated with adding an aftermarket part that enhances performance. If you are not willing to take the risk, then you have no business modding your vehicle.

I too have had SB for a LONG time with zero problems. If this happened over the period of a week I imagine it's either an extremely faulty SB or just a problem the car was going to have with or without the SB.

I was debating between the SB and an ECU. After one of the ECU sales reps told me he heard the SB would give all sorts of engine faults when hooked up to a computer at the dealership, I said to myself I would NEVER get the SB.

I made it clear that I did not want to void my warranty and did not want ANY problems at the dealership. That is why he explained the SB could easily be found by a dealer because of all the fault codes the SB generated.

Perhaps there are certain brands of SB's that are reliable and others that are not?

There is only one that I know of and It does not give any codes. I have a code scanner and I just ran a scan with no hard codes or pending codes. The throttle check comes up normal and I have had Star Diagnostic connected several times with nothing showing any faults. Believe what you want but the people on here that have had the Sprint Booster for any length of time love them.

I've had my SB on for 4 months and the only issues I have is the sore throat from all the screeming during the first week and soiled pants....

i've had my sprint booster for one year next month as well and no problems here! just a very worn headrest from my head being pushed back into the seat!
