Folding Mirrors Thread - All You Want To Know

I like the folding mirrors but don't have any use for them here. I could see the need for folding mirrors in Europe w/ all the skinny side streets and such, but not in the USA. What exactly is the price tag for all of that?

Folding Mirror Q. - For those who installed on 203 sedan
Steve is coming this week to NYC and he is installing the foling mirrors on my 2004.5 c230 Sedan.
He told me the driver side mirror would work 100%, and the passenger side only has a 75% chance of working.
I was just wondering if any of did the install on your C230 WITHOUT THE MEMORY SEAT OPTION. My only worry is that it won't work for that reason. But I am confident Steve will figure it out.
Also, I saw pictures of the installs. The new headlight switch on the driver side has buttons for the folding mirrors. Can't I turn them on and off manually? Do they fold when the ignition is shut off or what??? Can anyone with them installed tell me how the install turn out, and how exactly they work???

without the convienence feature enabled, which will have to be activated thru the STAR computer you have to fold them in/out manually by pushing the button, and the ignition must be on, not the car, but key turned to allow for power. Wiedermann informed me that once the feature is enabled thru the STAR then you can fold them without the ignition on, as well as them folding in/out when locking/unlocking the car.

thanks Citron. Steve's associate told me he was going (obviously) to bring the STAR computer to reconfigure the command units he is going to install.
My only worry is that because I don't have the memory feature on my seats and mirrors, the passenger side won't work.(possibly) That's what they told me.
But, if they can't be programmed, at least I can manually turn them on when I get into the car. But that would be hot if they opened and closed when I locked/unlocked the automobile.
I hope I don't get an scratches on the interior or exterior during the install.

The folding mirrors are controled through CANBUS and in order to make the mirrors fold, the door control modules have to support the folding features...standard cars without options here in europe come with door control modules that do not support the folding feature and therefore the door control module has to be swapped when upgrading to folding mirrors...
A car with memory driver seat has a full option door control module...a US spec car without memory driver seat has a folding feature supporting control module at the driverside for sure (tried that once in the past) but wether the pass side door control module will support the folding feature is something I am not sure off yet...

When and where are you going to be in NYC. Is it going to be at the same place as last time? I spoke with wanda and I think she didn't know were u are going to be. I have the folding mirrors/TV tuner on order. Please let me know because if it is during the week, I have to take the day off from work and drive down since I am from boston.
