Folding Mirrors Thread - All You Want To Know

Hello chaps!
Who here has the power folding side mirrors and do you know if they can be retrofitted into the US spec C Class?

Thanks!

BruNo has them.

Don't think it's an easy procedure to retrofit them though. Firstly I guess there are completely different mirror assemblys (and wires), secondly you need to replace the mirror-button panel on your dash, since the cars with foldable mirrors have two extra buttons. I wouln't say it would be worth the amount of money it would cost to retrofit them.

Just my $0.02

Angry Need folding mirrors

Does anyone know where I can get folding mirrors for my C240? My new apartment has the narrowest parking stalls I have ever seen. the stalls are enclosed and are designed to fit 2 cars. I already broke my passenger mirror trying to put my car as close to the wall as possible in order to get away from the monstrous SUV assigned to the "COMPACT CAR" spot next to mine!

Japanese version should have this feature --- actually I believe mirrors can be folded remotely.

Though have no idea if or how they can be imported...

My C230k has folding mirrors stock. Also, see if the is a minimum legal width for parking spaces in your area, there is in L.A. .

I wonder about wiring though, and it will require a new headlamp switch panel with the folding mirror buttons on them.

That's odd... They are not even an option in N.A.

Folding mirror for a W203 will end up quiet expensive compared to folding mirrors on the W202 and W210. In the W203 the headlight switch needs to be replaced for one with the folding feature (approx 180 euro)...the control units in the doors (relays) come in different versions as well and not all versions are suiteable for folding mirrors...I presume that the US spec 203s come with one of the most complete (full optioned) relay types in the doors, but am not sure of that...so it might be that these control units need to be replaced as well.

I have shipped 2 sets to the states in the past and those are still in a box there...during my next trip I want to install a set of folding mirrors on a US spec C230k coupe to see what needs to be changed and what not (wiring probably only needs to be added from relay to mirror)...

It can be done...but will it be worth the costs?

They are manually foldable so they are less likely to be broken off hitting an object at slow speeds.

I don't consider what they do manual foldable...it's not like everytime you park you are going to remove the latch and then hook it up again. They should either fold via power or fold completely manually...they don't do either.

This is not what they call "Folding mirrors" overseas - ours have only one position - fully extended, whereas theirs can be folded and kept in that position with a flick of a switch. But personally I won't park my car where you have to fold the mirrors - chances are it will get dinged/scratched in a tight space like that. Of course, we are spoiled here - on the other side of the pond lack of parking space leaves no choice.

I would actually use it more in my garage then in a parking lot. I pass my car inside my garage all the time and the mirrors stick out way to much, it makes passing the car annoying.

Then you are going to scratch your own car with buttons, buckles, zippers, etc.

Been there, done that, just not with this car...yet. I am extreemly lazy, i'd rather walk past my car (directly in front of the door) then go a few feet over and walk out the next garage door. Since I park next to the wall, I still need to pass the car to get in and out, thats when I need it to fold the most, as, with my lazyness, I am a bit chunky.

A lot easier to install and cheaper due to the not needed 180 euro costing lightswitch...I only have 2 power folding W210 sets left that do not have memory motors (not standard on european 210s)...
