Mike,

Removal of the wiper assy is NOT necessary. Get in the car, turn on wiper and as soon as they are vertical, turn the car off. This will allow you enough room to get the SAM out. Also, did you get a menu in the IC for folding?

Are the SAM modules expensive? Steve couldn't program a couple of thing because of my current modules.

I have an 04 C 320 coupe, and tried to use SDS to activate the turning lamps. (where the fog light illuminates on the side of the car you are turning toward) Even though there was a menu choice for this, my car wasn't able to perform this function. Also, Steve from MBenzNL put the option of folding the side mirrors (if equipped) upon locking the vehicle, like the S and CL can do. However, with this turned on nothing happened.

I was able to get both of these functions to operate by installing a new front SAM module (part number A 203 545 36 01) and doing the version coding with SDS, and now both functions work!

Remember, to get the mirrors to lock when closing, you need the folding mirror retrofit and you need someone with SDS developer mode to activate the feature in your instrument cluster. Also, it is necessary to remove the wiper assembly to install the new SAM module, so it's not a small job.
Mike, that's awesome news! I've been hoping and praying somebody figured out a way to make the mirrors fold with the locking function (rather than having to push the button everytime I leave the car. You've got pm.

Sunman, I'm sure you can do it that way. But as for me, I'll just pull everything and make it a little bit easier.

I didn't get the menu in the IC as a result of the SAM. It was put there a few months ago by Steve with DAS developer.

As far as the cost, the MSRP from MBUSA is $378. So it's not cheap. However maybe Steve can get these at a better cost.

I have just bought a w203 and really would like to have my mirrors fold when locking the car instead of closing them before I exit the car (which by the way I always forget to do). From the above threads I understand this is possible. Do I have to take to the dealer or is this something I can do myself.

well...I know that I paid a lot less for my 2005 front SAM but that was only possible from/through a US dealership

Folding mirrors???

One question, I asked my dealer to turn ON in DAS the folding mirror feature when locking the car, but the dealer couldn't do it
So, can he do it or only Steve with his advanced DAS???

I have a '04.5 C220CDI sport wagon with memory seat and electric folding mirrors from factory...

You may also need a 2005 front fuse box to be installed instead of the 04.5 version. You may find it slightly easier then.

You have to replace one of the SAM modules also.

This was covered in mbbodytech's thread. The part number for the module that needs to be replaced is

A 203 545 36 01

OK, I read mbbodytech's thread, but I have BIX with the turning ligths and folding mirrors from factory, isn't that suposed that my SAM module suport the folding mirror option when leaving the car!!!!

Not necessarily. Before mbbodytech's thread, there was no conclusion that this function could be added to 2004.5 and prior models. I'm almost positive the closing mirrors during locking function was only stock as of 2005.

Taken from Steve's website, http://www.mbenznl.com/products/mirrors.shtml,

"On the later W203s (2003 and up) it is possible to version code the door control modules (when the proper control modules are installed) and instrument cluster to make it possible to choose from the instrument cluster to automatically fold the mirrors when the car is locked and to unfold the mirrors when a front door of the car is opened. This feature is not available on all W203s though! "

Maybe it is something with OEM (outside of US) vs. OEM after install. All I know is Steve told me several times, straight out, that this would not be able to be programmed into my car, but now that mbbodytech showed it can be done if the SAM module is replaced, obviously there is something that can be done for extra $$$. Whether that's worth it or not is a different story.

auto folding on 203's is possible when the correct control modules are installed. I have it in my 2003 (build date 02) car. The FRONT SAM was replaced to gain functionality of this feature. Also, coding the door control modules is required but can ONLY be done with a DAS system that has developer mode.

Dr. Sunil to the rescue!

That's what I thought. Thanks for the clarification, Sunman.

well in japan space is an issue and they park their vehicles really close everywhere, i.e parking lot, parking garages, homes......so that's whey they have folding mirrors. not sure if germany/europe has this issue, but the mirrors are basically to save space when parked.
