Bridgestone RE-01R vs RE050A

Anyone have either of these tires?
The 01r's are actually less expensive at Tire rack right now than the
050's. I can get a set for about 600 + shipping + an extra 20 bucks due the tire only being available in the Georgia warehouse. The 050's are about 640 +. so only about 20 bucks difference overall.

The 01r is an "Extreme Performance" (Extreme Zoom!)
while the 050A is "Max performance".

The 01R despite being "extreme" was still rated as having a good ride,
and good in the wet, which I'm looking for.
No mention of wear though, but then they are "Extreme".

People like the 050R's too, so whats your guys opinion?

Hi,

I tried to compare all the parameters and a swiss website ( have to find the URL) had 2 choices : Bridgestone RE050A and Continental Sport Contact 2.

I tried the Bridgestone RE050A and they are fabulous, silent, confortable compared to my previous Goodyear Eagle F1 GDS2.

As far as i'm concerned you made the good choice, for my C Sport Coupe, I'll choose the RE050A

Bye

I've heard really good things about the 050A's.

the RE050A PP's right? the non-PP's don't come so highly regarded.

I was actually REALLY considering those two tires as well when it came to replacing the tires on my M. John (glassjaw) highly recommends the RE050A PP's and has them on his E55 and says that they come stock on the SLR and Enzo.

But, the RE-01R is a newer tire and supposedly BS's premier tire. According to the reviews on M3forum, the RE-01R's have better grip than the RE050A PP's, BUT they will wear slightly quicker and they are louder.

My only issue with both the Bridgestones is that they're heavy tires. For the M fitment (245/35/19 and 275/30/19) they were 5lbs heavier than the Eagle F1 GS-D3's and 6lbs heavier than the PS2's. but, people still swear by them...

I was REALLY confused as to what tire to get, but I got a good deal on PS2's so that's what I went with...

Wow, good point, I hadn't checked the weight.
The 01r's are supposed to be the the best gripping tire
TR ever tested.

Hmmmm.....well I the extra weight thing, again...
you always get what you pay for, and there's the rub.
Does everything the PS2 does for an extra 20 lbs overall.
I'll have to check the specs to be sure.

I'd like to know what it feels like to have a tire that inspires people to write reviews like those with the 01R.

I always sort, worst reviews at the top. Most tires do. Even PS2
The 01r doesn't have any bad reviews, and one guy who claims he has 30K+ miles on them, but maybe that was a mistake since they've only been out about a year. Someone else was at 10K and said there was lots of tread left. That encouraging.
I remember the days of Yoko A008's.
They lasted 5K miles on a good day, stuck like glue in the dry, and had absolutely no traction in wet, and in fact had no tread, just little dimples
enough to satisfy the DOT. Damn they were fun to drive on a FIAT X19.

There's an O50 and an 050A...
I thought the "A" was the Pole position tire?

I just checked...it is.
BTW for anyone running 225/45/17, they're having a special for
128 each, which is a steal.

Dammit, the AMG's I have now, you can't rotate them,
8.5" in the back...tempting to go back to C7's, but I'd need to buy 2 rims still.

OK, it's a done deal.
(2) 225-45-17's for the front,
and
(2) 255-40-17's for the rear.

I really came close to buying the 01r's. They're very close in performance etc. but after looking at the specs, and pricing, I saw the 255-40-17 was on sale, less than 245-40-17's, as well as the fronts, so that brought the price down a lot. And in the end, looking at the specs, the 255 is a better match in this particular tire.
The PP's supposedly will last longer, ride better, and be a little better in the rain. I don't race, so maybe a better choice, though there's lots of good twisty roads around these parts. I think the PP's will be just fine.
I checked the weight too, it's about the same, PS2 and PP.

Stock for the rear was 245-40-17 in the Michelin's,
but I checked the specs on both. The Michelin PS2's actually run slightly different speeds front to rear and slightly different diameters,
whereas the PP's are exactly the same revolutions and diameter.
That could explain some of the ESP errors I've been getting.

The rears are 1/2" wider, which doesn't appear to be a problem.
Plenty of room in the back side of the rear wheel, and only 1/4" on the front is not a problem. I always thought the rears looked a little lower prof than the front.
They were!

I can't wait! My back tires as bald as ****, and I made the mistake of buying used tires on ebay in the front and one has a sidewall bubble.
Well, chalk it up to experience.
They'll refund the one tire, but on the other one I'd have to pay to ship it back, and deduct the original freight, which leaves about $20 bucks.
Live and learn.

After reading the text of the road hazard warranty, I decined it.
You have to get prior approval, fill out forms, and send in reciepts.
Screw it. And after 1 year it's prorated.

nice! I guess the weight difference doesn't really apply until you start reaching the larger sizes...

good luck and let us know how you like em!

so I have a brand new set of PS2's sitting in my office--275/30/19's.

first impression, they're LIGHT! very light. I had my GS-D3's shipped to my office and compared to those, these are significantly lighter even though the GS-D3's were 265/30/19's...

I think I'm starting to understand what all the hype is about.
