Climatronic Worth The Money?

Well for under $300.00 it's worth it to me, for looks and function. I can not believe that MB did not have this as an option in America. Have pics before and after judge for your self.

Yes it's my car, you do not think I would take pics of someone else's. Also the controls work quicker on temp changes and look great at night. xcfisher (forum name) got it for me, must have a good souce to deal with. He was great to do business with, check out this fourm.

What does it do that the original unit does not?

Is this an MB part?

Yes. It is the same unit that is standard on C320's and optional on C240's. In other markets, it is an option on C230k's.

I installed mine today in my C240. I got it for $175/shipped from someone on eBay. It appears that the dual vent controls (where the air blows from - dash vent, floor vent, etc.) don't work. The C240/C230's analog setup only has a single vent control, so it was just wishful thinking on my part that I would get the dual vent controls to actually work in my C240. I was happy to see the tunnel mode works since someone else with this unit said his didn't.

Looks good! Three questions though:

1. What's the mercedes part # for this unit?

2. What is written on the two knobs on either side of the digital display? It looks like "auto". Does the unit have dual zone AUTO blower control?

3. Does the unit have any extra functionality that the c240 can't handle?

Thanks.

part number for mine was A 203 830 09 85. If your car has current controls left and right blower motors, think the unit will work. In the Coupe have only one blower motor so the unit will only display control for one. Better yet check out this forum

I got mine from xcfisher, he seems to know the unit and it's functions for different mb's

Is that a pool of gear oil under your beautiful red car? Great photograph, except for the apparent automotive incontinence

Jim B, are you going to do anything about your semi-functional self-installed climatronic unit? Like take it to the dealer and say "it broke"? I mean, it's nice to have the impressive graphics and all but I think every one of the climate control functions is too important to do without.

I understand from the Mercedes-Benz press release for the W 203 that these are more than just the prettier face - the Thermotronic unit requires a humidity sensor for the cabin, a sunlight sensor, another temperature sensor, a sensor for noxious fumes in the inlet tract, a dual blower unit (left/right separate), so there seems to be much more to it than a simple fascia panel transplant.

in the coupe, would there be any functionality loss/gain with the different unit? the posts here are somewhat unclear (as far as the coupe is concerned).

actually, you can get the climatronic unit in US coupes, but only if you get COMAND. dont know why, but all of the c230's with COMAND had the climatronic unit versus the analog. i persoanlly prefer anaolg, as its easier to set temp by turning a knob without looking rather than settin temp digitally. but thats just my opinion.

Nevide, could it be that there needs to be an adjustment made to the computer to get everything working?

This is line with what mbtech was saying a while ago about converting a 203 w/analog climate control to digital.

He said there was alot more behind the scenes that needed to be changed, and in the end it would be too expensive and not worth it.

I was initially confused at the fact that some of you guys went ahead and changed it based on why I had read b4.

Oh well, if you like it, then that's that matters.

Cheers!

going back to the passenger side controls, i have an 02. will the passenger side still be able to tune their own temperature if switched to the climate control. don't care about filter or ec mode. as long as both people can have different temps. anyone know?

yes it can.

antonio: they can. It worked on my vehicle.

jet: no computer adjustment needed. Not for me, but somebody told me that maybe I can resynch or do something with my clima to make it fully function, but I don't care. Tunnel mode and EC are basically just some fancy smanchy thingy they put in there. Never used it again.
