K&N air filter prob might be fixed

ok so i had the filters in when i first got the car back in June of 2007... well after 500 miles after purchase i got the famous MAFS prob. well i got the dealer to solve the problem for me which would have cost me about 800 bucks.

well since then i have been on stock filters until today when i was cleaning out the garage and found my shoe box drenched in oily substance (K&N filter inside). well i decided to put these back in and give it a try again...

well after 200 miles with them in... NO PROBLEM at all... last time i got the CEL... it came on after about... 20 miles after installation.

i think the filter comes with too much oil put on these filters and after loosing the excessive amounts to the shoe box... it doesnt bother the MAFS too much.

i know... with out the oil it will not filter the dirt.. but i think the excessive amount would be sucked in to your engine anyways and leave only whats needed on the filter if you think about it.

plus if you are worried about all the dirt / oil / MAFS you wouldnt be trying K&N in the first place.

I STILL don't understand why people use K&N filters in these cars. The stock filters have proven to perform just as well with no ill side effects.

K&N -- using the Micro$oft model.. marketing before performanc!!

I still don't know why people use K&N on *ANYTHING!!!* They disrupt the airflow which the engineers *actually* consider in intake resonenace tuning.

They allow tons of particulate past the media (please, not BS about not oilin it 'right')

And who cares if they are 'reusable'? How much does a stock filter cost? How much is your time worth? I'll spend $50 on a stuck filter (that works BTW) instead of 1/2 hour cleaning, oiling and futzing around with a K&N, or worse yet.. 2! My time is worth far more than any K&N can possibly save me.

In a lot of motorcycles they found the K&N would cause the bike to loose in the neighborhood of 5% power!

And yes.. the oil weeping out of the filter tends to foul things in the sensitive intake systems of performance vehicles. There are many stories of K&N type filters screwing up Porsches as well.

i've been in motor sports for over 20 yrs. have tried the K&Ns at one time or
other for street and competition. K&Ns advertising is what convinces people
to purchase them and is so convincing that people parrot this placebo effect
to each other, further pushing the sales of this wonder filter. it's comical how
successful their sales have been.....and rivals Wonder Bread ads from over 70
years ago....with all that talk about building strong bodies, given it's super
nutrition. blech....puh-leese.

This really is so silly. I have well over 60k miles on K&N. Not a problem.

I'll stick with K&N. You guys stay stock.

Have fun.

And I do completely agree w/ the original post. These come over oiled out of the box - clean and reoil them w/o excessive oil. Use good judgement and you'll be fine.

Well, you do get a nifty little sticker to put on your air cleaner that says not to throw away the filthy, oily, smelly filter inside!
