k&n Filter = Intake?
Hey guys, how's everyone. It's kinda late but i am posting because i need some information before i get everything done. I know it's in a post somewhere else...
But for my w203 2005 c230 Kompressor Sedan, I "was" planning to buy a K&N drop in filter and make an intake out of that. I want Performance and sound increase in this mod, I was wondering what should i do, and if i do do that how much power am i going to get out of it... your comments are appreciated thanks.
Paul

You will not get any more performance. You do run the risk of air bypassing the filter seals, and the oil might be too heavy on the filter and that can spoil the function of the mass airflow (MAF) sensor causing your car to run poorly. The intake and filter are designed by Mann+Hummel to give the proper amount of air. Keeping the intake clean will extend the life of your engine, and provide the air necessary for the fuel used.
If an oily filter worked better, don't you think Mercedes would use it?

You'll gain little performance, yet will have a better sound with a K&N.
Buy a can of CRC MAF cleaner at the same time, you'll need it as the oil eventually makes the MAF dirty.
If you want an even better sound, do this:
- replace the cloth intake tube with 3.5" stainless steel tube and silicon couplers.

I agree with you,but don't you think re-sale would have something to do with it as well?

I sooooo tried to avoid this thread, but she comes to me like a siren....
Moviela, and others....I respect you all. In spades....
However, I have run well over 60k miles on K&N filters, and never an issue. I think it blocks more junk than most, but that to me is an added benefit.
I say run it!

wait wait so you can remove this cloth tubing, add a 3.5" stainless steel tube and you will get better sound??? is there anything else required to do so other than silicon couplers?
