C230K Tweeter problem
The Bose car audio systems contain a level sensitve compression circuit which prevents the power amp from clipping. this serves two purposes: 1) minimizes audible distortion in high volume listening 2) acts as an active speaker protection device, making it very difficult to blow a speaker.
Just an FYI!
Thats what i was suspecting. Cause w/ certain CDs , mainly low-fi ones, the tweeters sound fine...only certain CDs, i.e. certain frequencies (usually from the hi-fi cds) produce some distortion. I was thinking in could be an amp or a crossfader problem. Do you know if the Bose system uses a fader? Perhaps certain frequencies are mistakenly crossed to the tweeter or something of that sort.

A fader, as it relates to a car stereo system, controls the relative volume between the front and rear speakers. A crossover network is an electronic circuit which would be part of a speaker system where there are multiple drivers (speakers) within that speaker system, each dedicated to reproducing certain frequency ranges (such as a woofer and tweeter). An electronic component within a crossover network could develop an intermittent problem which, when the problem is present, could produce audible distortion from a tweeter. Hopefully, when you take it in to be checked the problem will be easily identifiable.

thanks.
(if someone knows of a previous post with the details, can you post a link or pm me the search keywords? i haven't been successful.)

Bose use a soft clip circuit which helps.
