Eibach Sways Intalled...Awesome! Except for the clunk...

I put the front and rear sways on last night and the performance is immediately noticable even before you turn out of the driveway. The car just feels tighter while rolling. Then when you turn it is wonderful. I highly recommend the Eibach or H&R setup.

Now to the problem. Whenever my rear goes over a bump whether it be a driveway apron or what have you, the rear makes a clunking sound. I think I may have either over or under tightened something or the bushings aren't in there right. Not sure how I could mess up the bushings, but who knows.

The help of the board is greatly appreciated. I did a lot of research prior to the install and didn't run into this particular problem.

I been thinking about going to the HR (19mm) rear bar for kicks and giggles.
I have the AMG now which I beleive is 15 mm rear, 22mm front.
So I wonder how that would work out?
Whats the thickness on the eibach again?
(or someone post the link to all the bar sizes, I know it's out there somewhere)

After looking into this myself, here's what I know so far:

Sedan:

Stock: 20 mm front and 13 mm rear
C32: 22 mm front and 16 mm rear
H&R: 26 mm front and 19 mm rear
Evosport: 24 mm front and 19 mm rear
Eibach: 24 mm front and 22 mm rear

Wagon:

Stock: 21/22 mm front and 15/16 mm rear

I'm not sure if the Sport Sedan uses different bars or not. Also, the bigger bars on the wagon are not related to Sport/non-Sport suspension, because my non-Sport wagon has the larger set. Not sure what to make of that.....

Hmmm....Eibach sizes are fairly close together.
Wow, 22mm rear.
Damn, thats gotta be stiff.

I know that feeling, when you still feel it in the driveway, when I set my shocks the stiffest setting, which I only do on fast smooth road.
(Backside of CA Hwy 108 from 395 for example, oh that was FUN!)

Whoa I didn't know that about the wagon!!! I just replaced mine (C320 Wagon) with C32 AMG ones and I just told the garage to toss em with even looking at it. Luckily I didn't pay for the AMG ones someone gave them to me.

Well, maybe you had the 21/15 combo.....?

Also, the non-Sport wagon uses Sport Sedan rear springs. I assume the Sport wagon's springs are stiffer yet. However the wagon shocks (standard and Sport) are unique from the sedan's standard and Sport shocks....

A H&R 26mm and an Eibach 22mm would be a nice compliment to a set of coilovers, or even just a full aftermarket sport kit...

Yeah I'm saving for H&R coilovers. I do notice that the car doesn't roll as much the old sways.

I just installed 18 in wheels and I have the suspension that came from a C32 sedan. The guy who sold me the wheels gave me the suspension, sways and exhaust from his C32 so it was a pretty good deal.

The suspension feels a bit stiffer but not much from my stock. Only thing is the front didn't drop as much as the rear so that's why I want to get coilovers. Rear gap is 1.5 fingers but front is like 5 fingers gap.

Yeah - I like the gap on the rear of my wagon, but the front needs about a 1 1/2+ inch drop to get the stance correct...

The C32 exhaust bolts onto the C320 system? From what part of the exhaust back did you replace?

Larger rear bar will decrease understeer?

Lemme know how you like it, I've been thinking of getting a larger rear bar as well because of the understeer

You have a wagon too? Cool dude!

The exhaust didn't bolt on it was cut and welded. It was just from the muffler box back. I don't know if it made any difference other than the tips looking better. Maybe it sounds a little lower.

Yep - I've only had it for 4 or 5 months, so I'm still trying to get the suspension sorted for our crappy roads up here. I REALLY don't want to raise the spring rates, but I would like a bit bigger bar front and rear....the Evosport 24/19 combo would probably be best suited for my stock springs and Bilstein Comfort shocks. I also wish I could bring the front down an inch or so without changing the rate...maybe Sport sedan front springs?

Did the C32 muffler have the same size inlet pipe, or was it larger? How's the sound - it doesn't drone or anything, does it? Is there a bit more growl to the exhaust? (anything would be louder than the totally silent OEM muffler...) And most importantly, did you have to cut the rear bumper cover?

Well, sort of me too, but until the originator of this thread rechecks his work,
finds the source of the clunk, we're just sort of the chatter in wings.
Fact is, the answer to the original question is just to re-check everything.

With the new stiffer bars, it may not be anything at all, just a new reality.
Ever since I got my TEIN CO's I get a clunking sound, which is normal as there is no longer any rubber between the suspension and the
body. Kind of a clunking, boinking sound.

It is what it is!

Found the probelm: Upper control arm bolt was not tight enough. Dealer mechanic said the torque setting is 18 lb-ft, but you need to make it as tight as you can.

Yeah sorry for the hijack

Not sure about the pipe thing. I just paid a shop to put it on for $100. They told me they cut & welded it. I didn't ask for details. The rear bumper has a small notch but you can't even see it unless your'e under the car. I'm not sure if it was already there or if the shop cut it.

There's a bit more growl but not too loud that it's annoying. Here's a thread on this topic
