Fuel Additive? Part of A Service?

The MB manual cautions against using "fuel additives" but on my recent A service, the dealership listed "000-989-25-45-12 FUEL ADDITIV" @ $10.92.

Real deal or smoke and mirrors?

take your MB manual that gives that caution, along with a copy of your work-bill that says they added it, and ask them point-blank to explain.

Then post back here their reply !

No idea what that additive is supposed to be;probably is smoke & mirrors. The ONLY additive worth its salt is RXP!

Yes - I too would love to know what is said..."It's to remove carbon build up on the exhaust valve seats"...or even more generic - "It cleans the engine"

Please report back...

Not to worry...

I bought a couple cans of that from my dealer and used one of them in my E320. It's also known as Keropur made by BASF in Germany. The description states "Additive for gasoline engines, keeps the intake system clean". It is a Mercedes approved product. For that matter, they also approve of Chevron Techron Concentrate and I have used that as well.

I think they warn us against fuel additives so some owners won't add stuff "***** nilly" to their fuel tanks like STP or Gumout.

I'm with you on that.

I use a bottle of Chevron's Techron about every 3,000 miles and my mileage stays in the lower 30's, and the engine seems to run smoother.

I've used that stuff in each vehicle I've owned, with no problems.

That's pretty much what the SA said. The manual say no additives 'cause they don't trust us with our own cars... (I'm paraphrasing, of course ...)

RXP was invented about a dozen years ago to help w/emissions. Like all great performance-enhancing substances, they found out the stuff is terrific w/not only cleaning fuel lines/engine but it also gives a slight boost in hp. The little bottle is for 20gallons of gas & after a couple tanks, the car will love u!
In Texas we can get it at either Kwik Kar oil change shops or AutoZone. Well worth it dude!

I'd like to try BASF Keropur 3131. Could anyone tell me where to get one, outside of the Mercedes dealers? Thanks! Large package size also works for me.

Hi! Welcome to the forum.

I am reading of this Keropur stuff for the first time in this thread. I assume it's similar to techron. I think you'd have less trouble finding techron, though! The largest I've seen them come in is 20 oz, 1 oz per gallon of fuel.

My dealer wants to charge me $200 for fuel injector cleaning. Now The FI cleaner was listed to be about $10 does that mean they are charging $190 to pour it into my tank?

If it was a legitimate powered cleaning of the injectors I could understand, but for some reason I doubt that.

I've been using Techron since about 1989 or so. I can't say how good it is, but I've never had any trouble. Maybe I just drank the Kool-aide, but I'm going to keep using it.

I have also used it religiously in a Crown Vic at work, with the extra crappy municipal gas and it was the only car we had that never had injector problems.

Techron is the only FI cleaner approved & recommended by Benz & Volvo. You will find this confirmed on the internet - forgotten where.

I recently had Service A performed and also noticed the same entry on the receipt. I've been using Techron for many years and was happy to hear that MB recommends it.

I've also used Seafoam products: Fuel system cleaner (in the gas tank and through the intake) and Deep Creep throught the throttle body on my Z28 and had good success with it. Has anyone tried Seafoam on their MB?
I'm a bit apprehensive to go for it myself... if you haven't seen it in action, search youtube for some vids... crazy stuff

My Husband and I purchased a GTR. He did some research and purchased from Mercedes a fuel additive called Kraftstoff-Additiv sanctified by the MB seal. Is this the same as RXP? Cost was $32.50 for 5.7oz mix with 65L
